BigJohn.....Thanks for the reply. I will check out the threads you suggested. I have been checking most of the OTR companies for a little over a month now. I will take this decision very seriously.....this will be my last career change. I have a kid in collage and one in high school.....so time away wont be much of an issue....plus they have a great mother. Just looking to pay my dues with a starter company for a year and then move on to another company here in Florida....would like to stay over the road and get into a nice 401k or profit sharing. I do have 5 years of straight truck class B... regional....70hr on log book every week, when I was younger...I was thinking of getting my Class A here...which I can get for $300 and trying to find a O/O to train me while helping him or her for about 6 months..... and receiving some sort of minor compensation of about $400 a week...you ever heard of this happening?...is it legal?
So CRST orientation in Fontana ends tomorrow...

Vicbs, you are very welcome. The owner/operator thing should be legal IMHO. However, insurance will be the deal breaker with an inexperienced driver in a training situation.
It could easily increase insurance costs by $2,000 - $3,000 per year. In addition, they often include a 500 - 700 air mile radius on the area of operation. There have been a couple of threads where owner/operators have decided to train family members and this is what they have dealt with.
Another problem from my point of view is that most of us choose the owner/operator route for more independence and a co-driver doesn't fit that mindset. Then the big one for me is I only sleep behind a few select people. I have a big phobia about waking up dead.
I wouldnt say anything is impossible but I think its a hit or miss chance. It sure isnt the fast track to a driving career. Good luck.
Vicbs Thanks this. -

The original poster is no longer using this thread. Besides if you read closely you will see the sarcasm. It becomes apparent to me about half way through. The last sentence or two make it crystal clear.
There are new drivers now asking questions in this thread.123456 Thanks this. -

I've seen more threads revived this week than the past two months. I even fell for one yesterday. You can learn a lot by checking the dates. It also helps if you read more than the first post. I think in this thread the OP spoke of his sarcasm on the first page.123456 Thanks this. -
