If people watch some of my posts, I like to complain about Werner, the company that I work for. However, I have come to the realization that it's not the company itself, but it's the people who are directly over me. Though some people over me have been jerks, most of the people were great. I kind of struggled when I got out of training. I hit a pole with my trailer, backed up and skidded a trailer and got lost in Chicago and nearly lost my job if it weren't for my fleet manager and my safety manager. At the time, it looked like they were being jerks, but now I know they were looking out for me. I was given a choice, whether to go to another account or go back through training. I decided to go back through training with a trainer on that same account. I overcame a lot of my shortcomings and became a good truck driver. I will never forget what one of my dispatcher messaged me on my qualcomm told me. He said 'he was very proud of me and how much I have gotten better and how much I have retained in my first six months driving a truck.' I told him that if it weren't for my fleet manager, safety manager and the dispatchers around me, I would not have made it. He then told me that I would have been a good truck driver no matter what. And perhaps he is right. Above all, through all the thick and thin and through what I have experienced in my first year of trucking, it has been a great experience and I look forward to more years. I want to be owner operator someday, maybe start a small company. I have always been interested in business.
Even if I don't get to that point, I look at what Werner Enterprises has given me. It may not be the best company or the best paying company, but it gave me a job when I was about to go homeless, my girlfriend (now fiance) was about to break up with me and have to move back with my parents. I am grateful for all I have been through and still I am critical about my job. Maybe it's because I am getting into the groove or just working a lot of hours, but when I think back to what I have learned, it makes me happier and makes me appreciate my job more. :biggrin_255:
