Two years ago John Boy Hunt had a good western regional, but NO detention pay. Take home was $700 week plus or minus and I had only six months experience. They were a good company though.:biggrin_2551: There were some OMFG waits at some OMFG places though. Overall it was good, nice country to drive through and up and down all the hills definately kept it from being boring.

Western regional is the best IMHO. Seems like anytime I get east of Texas I find myself in the North East. I hate the North East. No I loathe the North East. NE is fine if your going from CA or WA and ur not staying, but if your going to run solo and you dont get lost, your DM will have you short hauling loads from drop yards to recievers in NJ, PA, NY, DE, and oh you just cant imagine the fun ( NOT ).:biggrin_2553: Go west young man.

You checked that website I gave you and that's all you came up with? It usually spits outs at least a hundred different companies! Don't get to hung up on the regional thing. There is usually a line of experienced drivers waiting for those positions. You could get lucky but I am just preparing you. The recruiters will tell you they have a regional for you and suddenly when your done orientation you are otr! So know you drive or quit! Just giving you a heads up, I have seen this many, many times. It sucks for the poor new guy who just wasted time and money thinking they were going to have a nice regional job to be home to their family. Now they don't have a choice it's over the road or go home with no money. I think there needs to be contracts signed by these recruiters as to what they promise individual drivers, just like in most other professions. With that being said, keep your nose to the ground! Make sure you are checking your locals and stuff like Craigslist. Also put the word out to all friends and family. Someone always knows a trucker! This may get you an "in" for a local gig or regional.

p.s. beware of the "dollar general" or "family dollar" regional gigs from the mega-carriers! You will be told you have the job and when you get to orientation there will be some minor stipulation they over looked that will mysteriously disqualify you from it. However you will be fine to do otr!

Worst comes to worst, just go get your Class B. All you need to know for the test is "airbrakes". Then you can go drive a dump truck or cement mixer. Will save you around $6000.00. Good luck to you!

I am located near Fort Worth, Tx. I am just basically making a compare and contrast. The regional thing is a plus not a requirement. I was on hold for Celadon over an hour last night, so going to try again and then keep going down the list of companies.

The main thing is that most of the companies seem VERY very similar in all the policies I am using as metrics. Celadon has this every 30k miles you get a weeks paid vacation. So once I talk to them, if they are similar in all the other regards they will move up right beside US Xpress as having the best offer for me and my buddy who want to do a driving team.

So far have checked and found these companies to be pretty similar
    PAM Transport Team
    Schneider
    Covenant
    Central Refrigerated
Celadon - an interesting home time/vacation policy but does not hire new drivers
    Shaffer
    Melton
TMC No teams, but does offer home on weekends 46 out of 52 weeks, plus tarping... which blows

Yeah, like you said, they are all similar in what they offer. Just don't get your hopes up because the good runs go to the senior drivers. You may have to pay your dues first before landing the ideal run or region. Good luck!

I checked that site you posted, but there is really no organizing principal to it as far as I can tell. A phone book has a lot of company names, but calling them before knowing if they are even hiring in your area when it shoots out lists of 100s of company names is too time consuming.

If there is a way to limit the hiring area to Fort worth, or DFW then I could start knocking out the list that site generates.

Chances are 95%+ of these kinds of companies will have a carbon copy policies for home time, and everything else. I've accepted that, but while I am still not actually hired my time used to research other companies as I find them is not a bad use of time IMO.

So far US Xpress is still ahead of the other companies for my situation.

Thanks for all the info so far.
