for me it was as simple as 1-2-3.....
1) i went home from my meeting with the school recruiter
2) i told her i was going to trucker school and told her i was told i had to go long haul
3) i told her that's the way it is, if she didn't like it she could kiss my AS you can see, by the permanent dent on my head.....she took it well......![]()
So, how did you all approach your wife/girlfriend/significant other about this career

A lot of very interesting responses to this one!
On the flip side: Do any of you find it hard to find a relationship when OTR? -
not hard at all, when driving through Nevada, prostitution is legal, you can find all the love you want. i think Louisiana has something going on in the "French Quarter", but i only whizzed through that state...so i didn't get any time for anything else.
but through it all, you will need to talk honestly with the gal you are interested in when you do meet one (free or paid) and let her know you need to do this job. -
Personally I wouldn't start one OTR but I have trust issues. The only way I would consider it is if we ran in the same truck. But then again I'm not big on running team so I'm in a bit of a pickle there.

The first time I went OTR my wife and I decided on it together. I worked local for 2 years and am going OTR again next week. This time my wife was like "You need to go back over the road..." So here I go. I'll make sure the kids keep an eye out for any strange visitors.

I just told my wife I want a divorce and went to get my cdl.
Lol in reality we were separated for a while and divorce was coming so it didn't really matter. My GF I'm with now had no problem with me going OTR but now that school is done and I'll be away training in a few weeks she is bumming out. But she knows how I had issues with the clingy wife and won't give me any trouble being away because she knows this is what I want to do. Plus I told her she can send the kids to grandmas sometime and come on a run with me. Even though I would be working it would be like a vacation together...no screaming kids, no housework, just her and I and a sleeper cab =o)flyingmusician Thanks this. -
I miss my wife when I'm out for a long time or when I have to sit for too long(i.e. reset)...We've been married 24yrs so it's not too big an issue...
When our business crashed with economy I just felt like doing something I wouldn't have normally done and now love it!...I truly love being on the road...She's always supported what I wanted to do and this was no different...I got a winner at home!
Ducks, Lonestar956 and flyingmusician Thank this. -
that sounds about right LoL
