IMO, those who are complaining about the new HOS have been running too hard to begin with and likely already fudged their logs a few times. Complaining about a lunch break is just beyond sad. If you work anywhere else, OSHA mandates a 30 minute lunch with 2 15 minute breaks.

I just found out that during planting and harvest season my company has a statutory exemption from HOS rules. Since harvest season just started, no 30 min break for me. I'm still going to take one but I'll be on duty so it'll be paid! Nice!

IMO Ghost Ryder is trying to rationalize the fact some are doers and some aren't. He's trying to rationalize the fact the smart drivers take their breaks when it is not IN-efficient and a waste of perfectly good work time. I resent the other notion you are trying to put forth, but it makes sense looking at what drives such a statement.

It's not that I agree with the new laws at all. I totally disagree with the way the Government ignorantly implements new laws and regulations. There hasn't been an increase in big rig accidents since they implemented the old HOS rules. Unfortuanately, there are not enough people willing to stand up, unite and fight for thier rights. So, we have to accept whatever they want to throw on us. Until the industry as a whole, can unite like they did back in the union glory days, our only option is to take it. I for one, would be one that would take a break even if I wasn't required to. That is just me and how I like to drive. I don't think everybody else should have to do it or be forced to do it. Too me, it is just good safe driving.. But, I am not you nor anybody else.

My comment was directed to the short haul drivers who complain about getting home a whole 30 minutes later. Have some cheese to go with that wine and good luck finding somewhere else to work at where you can legally be forced not to take a lunch.

    Correct.

First you have the steers. They are the lowest wage drivers. They are raised to be eaten.

Then you have some company guys and owner operators (who think they are their own bosses) that make a bit more money. They are the sheep. They Baaah Baaaaah all day and get sheered whenever big business or government wants. Over and over until they are used up and discarded. That includes the unions.

We are all being chased back to the barn by a little doggie called a paycheck.

If you think there is hope for change, then you really have not been paying attention.

Those who run big business, and control most republicans and most democrats have only one agenda. Get all the money they can, right now. Even to the point of not seeing that when the little people have no more money to give/bleed, their well dries up.

    Mikeeee

I admit I fall into one of those categories. I would be afraid to park my truck for a day or three or even a few hours...

Let's take away 30 minutes of your hometime for every day you work and see how long it takes before you start "wining".

It doesn't affect me. We have to take a mandatory paid 30 minute lunch break between the 3rd and the 5th hour after coming on duty. Now if we work more than 12 hours, we have to take another mandatory paid 30 minute lunch. Doesn't bother me because I get OT after 8. If they want to pay me almost $40 per hour to sit, I'll sit. Seems simple enough to me.
