Bigger font doesn't make you any righter. You're still wrong. There's nothing that says a driver cannot be in the driver's seat with the engine running and logging it off-duty. Nothing.
So how is the 30min breaking working out?

I'm a Fedex Ground route driver (something I'm planning on leaving within the next month to get my CDL and go OTR), and these 30 minute breaks are even forced on us. I've made it work every day until today and did my 30 like a good soldier, however today was a different animal. It was a humid 94 out and the highest I saw the thermometer inside of my truck get to was 111, I was drenched in sweat and went through 2 gallons of water. The LAST thing I wanted to do was go sit somewhere and eat and put food in my stomach, I didn't want anything but gatorade and water. The second to last thing I wanted to do was park my truck somewhere for 30 minutes and cook in that non-moving sauna.
For me, today, not taking the break is something no one will ever know about, however on August 1st our scanners will be programmed to force the 30 minute shut downs. This thing is an annoyance to you OTR guys, but to people working positions like mine, this thing is almost dangerous in the dog days of summer. There's no room for food on days like today, nor room for sitting in a non-moving non-AC truck. -
I just want to get my day over with and go home not sit in a hot truck somewhere. -

I really wish they.made this 30 min rule for otr drivers only. Local jobs should not have this enforced on them. I run local on idc who you are, there's no #### way you can "rest" comfortably in a day cab. Especially ones with.no or weak AC units on hot days. I would rather get my day over 30 mins early and sit on my couch at home. Otr I can see 30 min breaks not being the end of the world because you can stop for fuel and a snack and take a little walk around the parkimg lot and your 30 mins is up. But local guys are usually slammed with so much work we have trouble getting it all done in 14 hours as it is.
Y2K and Charli Girl Thank this. -

And I slept quite comfortably in my day cab every day...many times for over an hour. -
