This mandatory 30 min break is making a day even longer.....If the Feds were really concerned about safety, then recognition of Truckers as skilled labor would be given, with a mandate of hourly wage. Lawmakers have no appetite for this due to pressure from the industry's lobbyist. At the end of the day....this would be the only effective method to encourage safety on the roads.

Am I understanding the rule incorrectly?

A 30 minute break is only mandatory if you have driven 8 hours straight.

So you stop at 7 hours 45 minutes and take a 15 minute and you are back in the cab rolling at the 8 hour mark.

A break of 30 minutes is required when you reach the point of 8 hours of working since the end of your last qualified break.

Qualified break is the 10 hour break or the last break of at least 30 minutes.

Bottom line is we are subjects in this country, not citizens. Vote for whoever you want, the bureaucrats, with their mandates, stay on from administration to administration. Until someone solve this problem, things will continue to deteriorate.

Executive orders, agency regulations, and the absolutely corrupt Congress and Supreme Court have destroyed this country. The Founding Fathers would be suicidal.

I don't know if its me but for some reason I feel rushed that I have to return to work after 30 minutes (I know I can take a longer break) whereas before I took as much time as I wanted whether it be a few minutes or an hour if I have the time. I guess I will get used to that, I just don't like how that 8 hour clock runs down and I get the same concern as I do when my driving hours are about to run out and I am not where I want to be yet.

See, that's because you have the wrong attitude! The 30 minute break is a Good Thing, the Government has said so! They are taking care of us!
