Nope, the 8 hrs run on your 14 hr on duty clock, even if you've only driven for 15 minutes you have to stop if you logged on duty 8 hrs ago.
So how is the 30min breaking working out?

I'm with Y2K on this one.
As a regional driver, this 30 minute rule has done nothing but add more stress to my day.Y2K Thanks this. -
It doesn't affect me at all. Most days, I stop and take a half hour nap anyways. But, it is our company policy (was never enforced, and I doubt anyone did it) to take a half hour break after 4 hours anyways.
But most days, I do the 30 minute break while I'm loading or unloading. -
That seams to read that you can take that 30 minute break any time in the first eight hours.
From another Reg page:
I still perceive that as my original understanding.

If the goverment want to "take care of me" They can buy my fuel.. And lack of rest in truck drivers doesn't cause the most wrecks. I think the dot is trying to take some of the trucks of the road.
48Packard and truckerdave1970 Thank this. -
Yes,anytime in the first 8 hours but that is on duty hours from when you log on duty not just drive hours.
Not all drivers are driving from the time they log on for 8 hours, sometimes I start my day preloaded and run just 15 minutes to the mill and go from driving to on duty.
When I delivered Dollar Tree I would park behind the stores and start my day throwing freight sometimes 4 hours straight with no driving, that would still count in the 8 hours. -
If you take that break in the first 3 hours since starting to drive, you'll have to take another one later on to get your full 11 hours in.
