that video actually means nothing....if not in that video, then in another one where the news reporter says, "using a cell phone while driving is against the law as well".....so i will go with the 4 wheeler breaking the law more so than the trucker was.....yes, IL where that video was shot, trailers need to have the snow removed, at least that is also what i heard one reporter say...

however, it has been beaten to death here on this website....(and you could have just as easily merged it into one of the others, rather than start a whole new one) on the subject of snow removal...many of us feel that we WILL NOT get up on the roofs and remove snow, further i will add, why doesn't any law making individual/state come up with a SOLUTION FIRST to the problem, THEN enact a law about it...??

in other words, why put the cart in front of the horse....???

if the states want to enact snow removal laws (and some have) why can't they come up with a sure fire solution for the industry...??? why must the industry always be tagged with such archaic laws with out solutions first...???

further, why was that dumb@zz 4 wheeler driving so close to the truck...??

this video has as i said, been here already and we commented on it.....

give me the ticket, and if need be the friggin CSA points.....i am about as sure as i can be, no employer will hold that against me (not clearing the snow) over log book violations, speeding, etc.

And how do you propose cleaning them off? Did you know that the majority of trailer roofs are made of fiberglass and can't support a normal sized person's weight? So please, do tell how you would get up the 13 and a half feet to clean it off?

Also, did you know that a four wheeler can get a ticket for following to close to a truck? More and more states are now enforcing this law thankfully. In addition, they're also writing four wheelers tickets for changing lanes in front of trucks too closely.

Law enforcement in many states are beginning to wise up to the fact that four wheelers cause more accidents with trucks finally.

If these truck washes were on the ball.................

    they could make a fortune.

Think about it, they have all the equipement,

on wintery days they're dead anyways,

how about a quick and cheap trailer roof de-snowing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Ya never know,

I have seen more 4-wheel snowballs than I have trucks.. they should practice what they preach..

I personally like the low hanging tree limbs to clear off my trailer. Large pine trees work real nice.:biggrin_2559:

On Saturday night into Sunday morning it snowed about a foot and then rained a little. Then it went down to 12 below. You now have a 48 or 53 foot killer missile problem on the trailer roof. It's got to come off before going down the road. At the terminal they use a man-lift. At the house you can use a roof rake. Yeah you can get a nonsense ticket someplaces for a little snow, but just saying sometimes it becomes a no-brainer safety issue. This year in particular.

FYI northern people do rake their roofs. Most people have one leaning up against the house now. It's a long handled gizmo you use to pull the snow towards you and onto the ground.

You know, an easy way for a wash facility, or even a truck stop to install is a simple header board that's 13' 8" high. Truck drives underneath and board scrapes the snow off and worker bee scrapes snow off pavement to the side with a little tractor.
Simple, cheap and easy. Charge driver $10 or so and there's a revenue source for the place.
Truck stops could install it and give free snow removal for 50 gallon purchase...just use one of your shower credits.

How long do you think that 13' 8" board would last with the 3" or more of packed snow on the ground?

I saw a sign some where about de-icing trucks to remove excess weight.. then I thought just how much extra weight does it add to my GVW.. a lot more than we think..

why should we have to go out and buy a snow rake...??

suppose a driver DOES take home his truck/trailer....

now suppose he cleans off the trailer when it was parked at his house.

suppose he drops that trailer at a customers place, and picks up yet another one, and this one has snow on it...

what is the trucker to do, remove snow on all the trailers he hooks up to, carry a snow rake with him....???

BS.....let someone else come up with the solution, not us, not our time, not our labor, because by the way, to clear off that snow, we should then have to log that as "on duty time" where we get paid for it, since after all, its "company business" we are doing......because God almighty, it ain't "personal business" anyone of us would be doing....

and by the way, a snow rake does not have enough of a bend in it to allow for a good removal of the snow, we'd only get the outer edges.....what about the middle...???? you got a plan for that...??
