It's not always about money but I understand why you're leaving. Your loyalty to your present employer is a fine thing but loyalty doesn't include starving.
Is the new job W-2 or 1099?

Tb0n3 and Another Canadian driver Thank this.

If the current drivers come up with the numbers you think you will make, then it's probably true.
Getting the info from current drivers is the smart thing to do. Good luck to you.

If the new company is not allowing time to decide and work a notice. That says a lot.

Whoa there, it is load abandonment, not a good thing no matter what your situation is.

to many fleet owners, this is a bad thing, worst than rolling a truck over or abandoning the truck.

This is the big one I was going to ask. W-2 is sharing your tax burden with your employer so your lower pay goes further. 1099 on the other hand is an oft abused contractor tax schedule that means you're on the hook for everything. I don't remember the numbers but you need to make something like 30% more than W-2 to break even, and even then you risk the IRS coming after you and the company.

Yep, such urgency. I don’t like that at all.

I’m a small carrier, started in the early ‘80’s. I’ve never had more than 8 trucks, run 5 of my own and 2 lessors now. Been an awful pile of big companies go under in the time I’ve been around. I’ll guarantee you the happiest, best paid drivers out there work for someone with less than 2 dozen trucks, and probably drive a really nice one.

Most accountants will tell you to plan for about 33 to 38 percent for federal taxes, about 11 percent for state taxes. 6 percent if you have local taxes. A lot depends on your residence location. They are national average numbers.
Most people have no idea that your W-2 employer pays the other 7.65 percent for social security.

Don't be such a pessimist. I met several of my now, ex-wives through a leap of faith, a fifth of Crown Royal and a one-night stand.
