I am thinking about car hauling when times are slow in Flatbed freight.Has anyone put a hitch on their truck to haul hotshot frieight? The purpose of putting a hitch on, was to be able to rent Uhaul trailers for my personal moves.Hitch mounted by the light bar and not the retrofit attachment that goes on the fifth wheel

Make sure U-Haul will allow you to rent a trailer for that truck. You'll need to make sure your lights work properly. I had to get a converter so the tail lights and signals would work together properly. If you are having trouble finding a brake signal, you can get it from the trailer stop lamp relay.

If you plan on hauling any other trailers with electronic brakes, you'll want a brake controller.

Car hauling rates are based off of hauling 9 cars, so unless your hauling that amount your rates aren't going to be any better than your flatbed.

he did mention installing a pigtail for the light at the back.I told him about the other trailer pigtail by next to the main one , but he mentioned just what you said,He seem to know what you were saying. Can I even haul 3 cars on a trailer locally when I am home?Wondering if these auctions have trailers or would it be worth renting one and hauling locally until I feel like going OTR with my flatbed.

I wired mine up for pulling personal trailers. Every now and then a load pops up that might require pintle and air brakes, or you could set up for hauling oversize modular homes and buildings, but for the most part you won't make good money competing with the pickup truck segment.

I cannot possibly see there being a profit in hauling 1 single vehicle with a rented uhaul trailer hooked to a semi after paying uhaul and fuel. A rollback can run circles around that operation with no ifta, logbook, cdl or rental fee. How could you compete?

Nothing wrong with a gooseneck behind a class 8, i see it all the time and have talked to a few, they say theyre making the same money as everyone else basically.

You can compete. It's all about negotiations, location and ambition. I've talked to a few who do it and have for a long time. There are a lot more cars moving around than people think, and it's growing.

I have thought about putting a hitch on my truck to pull my Jeep from time to time for personal trips.

I didnt mean to be a debbie downer and am very rarely the guy to say dont bother. The renting a uhaul part is where it goes off the rails for me

I dont think I wanna rent to work with it.I can invest about $1200 in a small car trailer. After reading this thread and researching online, I have chnaged my mind.I just want to be able to move my cars around, so, I need to invest in a Tow Dolly, which will cost around $700.If I need to move, then I will go rent a cargo trailer. It will pay for itself than renting a Uhaul truck
