i took the wrong trailer ending in 7 instead of ending in 4. i drove half way up to reno from so cal with it, to swap trailers with another driver, in which he was taking it up north to reno.
i'm getting paid big money at my LTL driving job, i am new to LTL, 2 months thus far. i'm still in my 90 day probation period, where if i goof in that time period they'll fire me. now i'm not sure doing what i did today is the kind of thing that can get me fired or much closer to it.
so i want your guys opinions. should i be concerned heavily? have you seen guys are your company fired for stuff like this? have you seen guys do it or done it yourself at your LTL job.
i'm getting paid double the pay here as i was at my previous trucking job doing target stores and ports. so i really wanna perform at a way that truely makes me worthy you know. i don't want to do this kind of mistakes, i maybe did it once at my previous company in 8 months there, and the guard shack caught it right away before me leaving, so it was no biggie. this time though the trailer made it all the way to reno from so cal, and i feel aweful about it.
so i goofed today at my job and grabbed the wrong trailer.

Well, in light of the fact that nothing in that trailer is supposed to be in Reno, you have a big problem. Chances are, you are gonna drive for free back to So. Ca. You need to call your company, like 2 or 3 hours ago, and find out how they want to fix this. They needto advise their customers that everything is now going to be backed up at least a full day. This is a complicated and costly mistake. Good luck.

Wouldn't surprise me if they canned you. Still in probation period when most are extremely cautious, and if they don't count it a blessing.

1st offense at my company is 1 day off, and it escalates from there. A driver also forfeits the miles he ran because they were wasted. Hopefully your consequences are no worse.
Just understand potentially dozens of customers can be affected and the company can lose lots of money if any of those shipments are guaranteed by a certain time, not to mention all the lost money potentially lost due to other drivers or dock workers down the line if anyone has to wait on that freight or the freight you took the wrong direction. Those mistakes snowball big time.
Always check the seal number if you guys have them on your manifest against the one on the trailer as a secondary check and also check the trailer number on the Qualcomm or whatever computer you guys use against the trailer number out your back window. That's what I do-- double and triple check everything before I roll. I'm pretty paranoid. The consequences are just too severe.rabbiporkchop, Just passing by, Steel Dragon and 7 others Thank this. -
fess up to company asap, in delaying you hurting other driver badly. Then be prepared for the lumps coming.

You’ll probably be working for free today and/or working a Saturday this week. Hopefully they’ll give you a mulligan on this one but certainly don’t let it happen again. They could lose customers over this because of delayed freight not to mention the fuel and time you wasted.
We had a guy at an old job of mine that had a load to Portland, ME and he drove all the way out to Portland, OR before he even realized he F’d up. He was fired when he returned to the terminal with the load and another driver took it to Maine..rabbiporkchop, Steel Dragon, easytopleez33 and 3 others Thank this. -
I had a guy at an old job of mine who took my trailer, which had 3,000# of crackers on it when he was supposed to take a trailer with over 40,000# of aluminum. Luckily he was headed in the right direction for me, so it didn't hurt me any but he had to double back to meet me. I just thought wouldn't you notice that trailer felt a little light going up those hills in Kentucky?Steel Dragon, 06driver and DTP Thank this.
