It is NOT a "stupid" mistake until you make the same one
more than ONCE.
Humans are just that---HUMAN--we all make mistakes..
I have only heard of 1 perfect person in the world and he could
change water to wine...............
So... I got in a 'el stupido' situation today.

You just cited the exception to every rule.......OS/OD.....or permitted loads. Or in my case.....Oilfield with 90% on the paved road and 10% where the paved road quits.
There IS an alternative however......covers most routes.
A Texas Atlas.......yep, we got one of our very own......
Texas is so big that a regular atlas only shows the main arteries and highways....some Farm and Ranch to Market roads are left out for space considerations.....county roads too.
If you run Texas exclusively...like I do....or run OS/OD and need these alternate routes, you'll spend the money for this book of maps too.
And still won't need a GPS.........If you can read a map that is.
I think this is the biggest problem......some just can't read a map.Texas-Nana Thanks this. -
Also, i've had quite a few nights where i got lost because someone stole a street sign for the street i was supposed to turn on. obviously i never saw the name of the road because the sign was stolen. GPS in "free drive" mode shows you the name of each street coming up, making it harder to miss turns. -
another time, another codriver, a bridge that was high enough but didnt look it and wasnt marked, he told me "youll fit, that truck up there just did it!"....talking about an empty flatbed being pulled by a flat top truck. Come ON. it was bloody obvious that we are 4 feet taller than that truck. -
I remember hitting the brakes hard once in NYC because the bridge was marked 13' 2"
And a truck same height rolled right on by without pausing and was fine.
STUPID LYING BRIDGES -
Y4eah those NYC bridges will do it every time! ROFLMAO! I do NYC all the time and I'll see these drivers see a sign and try to get off on Atlantic or some of the others and I'll be yelling at them on the CB or blowing my horn at them but they don't have the thing on and I'll just hope that they have a NYC map instead of the atlas!
Yep those 13'2 bridges have a sick sense of humor! -
I'm sorry....But this is operator error 100%. NOT software error.
I can not recreate your routing using Delorme, using short or quickest route.
Even if my start point is 500 feet south of exit 271, it tries to route me to exit 272. Also a big no-no.
I can not force ANY of my routing software to route me onto I-65 using your start and destination points. Unless I insert a way-point.
I have PcMiler, Delorme, and Rand McNally household. NONE of them even suggest travelling on I-65 at any point. Regardless of software settings. Rand Mcnally offers 4 settings -
If a person can't read a map, what makes them think they can operate a GPS ??? While you can enter a start and stop point. There is more to a GPS than that. Much more.
I deliver to many ranches in central and western Texas, using a GPS. No problems.
Living in N MS, I know the majority of these roads well enough to do it in my sleep. BUT, I still run my GPS to keep track of time.
Nothing wrong with being old school....see my experience. But don't turn a blind eye to technology that can assist you. And a GPS is worth it's weight in gold...IMHO.notarps4me Thanks this. -
