From my own personal experience, I have never been searched. But I have noticed that most of the trucks and cars that I see being searched are being operated by black, hispanic or mid eastern drivers. I can not make myself believe that Racial Profiling is an effective method. If I was in the drug industry, I'd hire only white folks to transport my stuff...because they never get stopped.

My wife is a Mexican National with a valid US Visa. She loves to ride with me, and when we can do it, we load up the kids at make it a family trip. So far, that has not been a problem except for once. East of El Paso, the USBP accepted my wife's visa, but wanted to see the visas for my children. Both of our kids are US Born. Luckily, I had both kids shot records with us, or they would have been sent to Mexico. The agent lacked common sense to see that my children were really mine. My son has my blond hair and my daughter has my mouth. 3 hours, and a fax from my mom, and we were allowed to continue on or way. We have been married for 4 years, but my wife still has a very difficult time with english, especially in a stressfull situation. These officers went out of their way to make the situation more difficult. Why? Obviously, a spouse of a US citizen has the right to be here. My US born children do as well. In this day and age of information, and how fast it can be shared, the info we provided should have been enough to quickly verify. Well, because of that day, she will not go on anymore runs going west on 10. If we do go west, and have to come back to Houston, we still take 40. Now that is sad.

    Brick,
OK, when you see a car or truck getting the "search". more times then not, the driver is black, hispanic, or middle eastern. If the person is white, his pants are sagging because he is trying to act ghetto. I have NEVER seen a prototypical white family getting searched. Ever.

racial profiling is a sad pathetic fact of life....and unecessary but impossible to control....and in some cases often bred into an officer who originally wasn't that way for whatever reason....

Your correct in the transformation of an officer from the beginning of their career to the end, allot of the causes for that are dealing with allot of folks that are not in the social mainstream of society who don't understand or trust our institutions or don't want to. They get allot of flack every day, lied to more often then not. Then they hang out with other officers who share their experiences and then their world views slowly narrows.

Mostly good people trying to do a tough job with as many regulations hanging over them as the trucking industry.

People only see the outside of the situation. One has to remember police are trained and go by a lot of instinct. It helps keep them alive. Cops know what to look for and are not very trusting. Look at how many of them get divorced because they are always suspicious of people. They get lied to all the time and often they suspect their spouses as well. There are people that will kill them in a bat of an eye just because they are wearing the uniform. A lot of people have no respect for authority and yes there are some bad cops out there.

I've had my car searched before and I'm white. Why? Because someone mistook another guy for me and claimed I was stealing. I allowed them too and was on my way within 5min. Nothing was took or lost.

sure, their are other types of profiling also....its really kinda common sense to see how a life in that career would create it, if you put yourselves in their shoes (not that that justifies it, but you cant blaim them in a way....especially when what eventually becomes intinct instead of what a rookie may have second guessed himself, gets proven right time and again) ....and the comment about tending to hang around only other officers is right on the money also....narrowing views ....i have respect for what leo's put up with, and have to do so with not nearly enuff pay.....
-i prefer to let them do their job, stay out of their way, and show them respect until given a reason not to.
