I would call my local DMV for this, but unfortunately they're closed until Tuesday. So I brought the question here. So long story short, I went to the CR England truck driving school in Richmond, IN and did almost everything needed to get my CDL... except pass the CDL Skills Test (parallel got me). So now I'm back home in South Carolina with my permit and was wondering if they would let me switch the permit over and take the test right away? Or will I need to redo the who permit part over in South Carolina?
Follow up question, are there companies out there that will hire me with just a permit so that I can get the training needed to pass the actual skills test?
So I have a valid Permit... from another state

My guess is since it isn't a license but a permit, you'll have to get a new one and take the tests. Shouldn't be hard. Just take the endorsement exams, get your permit and take the test.
Also, there's lots of companies that will train you. C.R. England is at the bottom of the bucket. Consider yourself lucky. -
You are going to have a world of trouble, this is a big problem with these training companies. In order for you to get that Indiana cdl permit you had to apply for an Indiana driver license so you will have to reapply for a South Carolina license, then apply for a cdl permit, then retake all the knowledge and skills tests to get your cdl. I wish these bottom feeder companies would stop taking advantage of people that want to change careers but consider yourself lucky you didn't get on with CR England, they would have you in a dead end lease purchase program within weeks of getting your cdl and the only way you would make any money is by training other new drivers before you are ready to and having them beat up the truck you are paying for.
My advice for you would be to find a company that will reimburse you for a real cdl school thru a community college in South Carolina or get you own financing so that you are not indebted to any one company, then you can find a good job without being nothing more than an indentured servant to one of the mega companies.
For the nay sayers out there, it can be done without a mega carrier, I obtained my cdl on my own (borrowed a friends truck) and did not go over the road until I was already 15 years into my career and then it was only because I wanted to try it out, I drove local from day one, Monday thru Friday and made great money doing it, so don't fall victim to the bs that you have to give your soul to a mega carrier to get started. You may even try a company like FedEx Freight or Con Way Freight in South Carolina, they will hire you as a dock worker and train you for your cdl, all while you are making real good money and learning the ropes from the inside out.
Either way you go, good luck.MisterMurdock Thanks this. -
I know this for a fact as I was in the same boat. Had an Indiana permit when home without testing and wanted to do so in SC but they informed me I would have to get a new permit which required taking all of the tests over and switching your DL back. I know when I was in Indy they made me transfer my license to Indian from SC. so thats just my experience with SC.

Why dont you go to the unemployed offfice and ask if They offer a any type of training or here in indiana They called workforce one and they pay you your cdl training.I guess alot of people dont know that because since 2008 States are getting alot fund from the federal government to train people for a new career and CDL is one of the them.

I'm sure it's that way with all you folks. once you get license or whatever you get. you still have to deal with the hassle of transferring to home state.
I'm glad my school was in my home state. -
Goodwill Industries has a website to check; they pay for CDL school, free to you.
Since you already have a permit, try these companies:
Millis Transfer - just opened another school in either NC or SC. Run Eastern half of USA.
Southern Refrigerated Transport - run coast-to-coast -
If your going to drive OTR, its time to decide where your mail is going, think about tax advantage. hhmm.....
