Bandaid... thank you for your service and for your post... that is exactly the perspective I keep.. I know that this is not the hard job every complaines it is... I know our service men and women have certainly been through tougher times then I will see in trucking.... complain because my sleeper doest have AC... really, do I think those who fought for my freedom always slept in perfect conditions.... do I think the homless family sleeping under a bridge shohld be concerned that I dont have AC in my sleeper.... should I complain to the homeless vet who hasnt eaten in days that all I get to eat is subway...

Personally... I am grateful I have a job... I get a pay check each and every week.... I do the best I can because I have self pride... I take pride in myself and the job I do... and every day I can see how much better, how much easier I have it than so many others... keep your face to the sun and you wont see the shadows... keep your face to the shadows and you wont see anything...

Honestly from what I have read, you have done jobs I... honestly wouldnt... But complaining is fine... but I think the op is abit out of line by wanting to vent on his friend, who as well could be having a terrible day. I hope your words on empathy stays in the op's memory.

Also get your ac fixed before you fall out from heat stroke and drink water.

I will give you guys a perfect example. Right now i am sitting in a starbucks in a village west of Chicago. I am on a layover until tomorrow morning so i am just chillin'. Anyways sweat is dripping from my body from head to toe because i skateboarded from the truck at the shipper to where i am at right now. It was 3.5 miles of hills. Point being that kind of workout just doesnt happen in this profession. No, coincidentally it only happens on my downtime if and when i make an active effort to push myself. My teammate is still back at the truck. I always ask him if he wants to come along with me and he never does, unless we drive there naturally... Just sits in the truck eating junk food, playing videogames and overall committing violent assaults against his heart and overall health.

Bartlett. It might not feel like hills to you in a car but let me tell you on a skateboard you feel everything.

I was a skater in middle and highschool but stopped because i permanently injured my ankle and the pain gets activated when i do tricks. So even though i cant skate like back in the day using a longboard for transportation/exercise seemed like the natural thing to do being a skater.

True but that can cut both ways, I've worked construction jobs where 8 hrs was about all I could take but I had to work a 10.
Other jobs like pulling green-chain in a lumber mill would drop the average trucker in an hour,14 hrs in a truck is a long day for sure but some jobs have a lot harder hours.
I can remember back in the '70's working in a mill hoping that break whistle would blow for our ten minute break and 8 minutes into the break the 2 minute warning whistle would blow letting you know it was time to get back to your work position because the mill fires back up at the 10 minute whistle.
