I spent the late 80's and early 90's sitting directly in front of 15's cranking Metallica. I was told the same crap. Now at about 1 million miles (the last 300k in my Pete 362 cabover!) ON TOP of those Metallica years and I hear just fine.

I am 50 now. I really don't care if I need a hearing aid at 60 or 70. They have come a LONG way. LOL. Besides...I'll just crank stuff even louder!

I still sit in front of speakers jamming SOAD and Audioslave and whatever else floats my boat AND I jam live real music with my Daughter in the basement. 4 electric guitars, REAL drums, LOUD piano!

    Bring it.

I actually wear some fancy ear plugs while driving. Without them after I park my tinnitus goes crazy

What Might Be The "Decibel Level" With Hood Open and Person Standing Next to Engine, Like during Pre/Post Trip??
From My Experiences, Such "Level" Drowned Out About Any Nearby Noise.

Thanks For The Results Of Your Tests!
    CHEERS!!

Not my place to criticize personal choices but as someone who has worked in the R&R field and now works in an air separation plant I would bet you will miss your hearing once it is gone.

I too as a kid was first in the door at concerts to be up front at the stage, hopefully in the middle but more often than not in front the PA cabinets.
I remember my ears ringing all the next day.
My stuff was more late 60 into the mid 80s, think Uriah Heep or Deep Purple or Pink Floyd but loud none the less.
I really didn't notice the loss till over a decade ago when I couldn't hear the highs that I used to on the stereo. I thought maybe my cartridge or speakers were going bad. Nope.
After starting here 12 years ago we have a hearing test w an audiologist who tested me and gave me baseline numbers.

The normal frequency levels of a healthy ear are 20hz to 20,00hz.

I have mild to moderate frequency loss on both ears.
I am an avid shooter, motorcyclist, woodworker and live concert goer, although my tastes have changed over the years.
All activities which helped damage my hearing from years of unprotected pursuit of my fun.
For the last dozen or so I use ear protection for all my loud activities including just mowing or running a snowblower.
I agree there have been great advancements in the hearing aid field but the fact is they only amplify and can't replace frequency.
Plus costs are somewhat prohibitive, are not covered my medicare, batteries only last a month and are generally a pia. Would be ashame if you could no longer hear your daughter play like you do now. Like I said I won't browbeat anyone for the choices but I'll include my test results from November and you'll see what I mean.
    My base is from 2010

    Here's a good info link.
And good luck with the band :)

I drove a brand new 2020 Freightliner Cascadia. I'm still a big advocate of wearing suitable hearing protection even in that truck.

    Two concerts.
While not a fan of the band, they do put on a great show. Kiss at the Cow Palace in Daily City,
(A little south of SF) It was quite loud. The sirens they set off didn’t help much.

The actual loudest one was Emerson, Lake and Palmer. I couldn’t hear for 3 days. Seriously. Something I discovered after that show, if your not used to it, it can actually be difficult to walk when you can’t hear. Was a great show, a good time was had by all.

Don’t say that. My ocd is killing me. I know my truck inside and out if it sounds off by a decibel I’ll know it. If the cab smells like anything other well my cab I’ll know if. And if it feels off I’ll know it.

and today it sounds off. Tomorrow I pop the hood.
