the concept is present just not prevalent.72 year old Joe,from the local advance auto parts, put a battery in my car because that is what advance does.as this was happening,he started talking about trucks and drivers.upon completion of the installation,i asked him how he knew i drove as no one ever suspects that i drive a truck.his reply? because i was helping him install the battery and he had a feeling for some odd reason.we did make fun of the new breed.he told me of his cabover pete he bought new w/a 1693 cat in it.and about being on the side of the road and i interupted him and finished his sentence stating that 4 drivers would have been there as soon as you hit the shoulder.it was that way at one time.I caught the tail end of that era it seems.

the conversation did us both some good.i could see it in his eyes.he said he had done it for 48 years and had close to 5 million miles.i did not doubt him.the moral here? i don't really know other than the fact that we communicated.I will be dropping by and talking from time to time.he asked me to.

some people should be quiet lest thier stupidity and ignorance proves it
when someone dog dead beat pulls in to a TS at 2 am and cant get a spot
the bobtails are part of the problem
just because you have the right doesnt make it right
real men like you guys wouldnt have lasted a week on the ocean with me
i am sure you know of who i am talking too

I parked in the back by myself. Two ladies of the night came over and we played spades. Nobody noticed.

it would be nice if those parked bobtail wouldnt park so deep in the space so as to make it look like theres an open spot. Sucks to think , cool a spot I can get , only to pull up to check the space and see a truck already tucked back in there.

corneilous---- if you were not raised to be courteous you will never get the concept
    I feel sorry for you
Of course any truck belongs anywhere it has to be
reefers beside cattle trucks 6 wheelers beside overlength
bobtails where they need to be
bobtails that take a 65 foot spot when smaller spaces are
available but not as convenient to waddle into the TS
    are by definition ignorant
any trucker over 50 will tell you the same thing
we were raised by different values and rules in life
Even my own kids think I am wrong most of the time
of course my 82 year old father thinks I am not hard enough
not any of you people who think I am an ##### coulda followed me around one week 200miles offshore
and not run home cryin to mama

I know all about being courteous but uh, I'm starting to wonder about you.

Seems to me like you don't fully understand it.

Bobtails parking in the big spots when A), all the bobtail spots are taken or B), there aren't any anyway, is not, I repeat, is NOT being discourteous. But if you want to continue to argue, do it with someone else.

    No need.

There's a lot more people that think otherwise of your opinion and logic so don't feel sorry for me, your just wasting your time.

So, am I reading this right, we kinda, sorta, somewhat agree that if no smaller spots are available, its ok to park in the big spots, or is it too good to be true?

I'm willing to bet that you still feel like bobtails need to just go somewhere else if the big spots are the only option. Am I right?

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a grain elevator? And what does a meat hauler have to do with finding little nooks and crannies to park? I'm still a rookie just trying to learn from more experienced drivers.... Thx.

Someone here wrote "if you want peace and quiet go park at the cemetery..." I found that hilarious!! :biggrin_2559: I prefer to park at customers (with their consent) whenever I can. Generally I am the only truck there. :biggrin_25519: The only convenience of truck stops for me are the showers. But I got used to sleep regardless of the noise anyway...
