I loaded in Chino today, 4 hrs ahead of schedule.

I called the broker agent and told her that I was loaded and heading out. She said thanks and updated my status.

Told her I would do a check call in the morning and when I arrived at the consignee sunday morning. She thanked me.

Got one of those text with the request to track, I ignored it. No one has bothered me.

Did you read that on a Buzzfeed click-bait article about "how to become a powerful negotiator" or some such foolishness? That makes no sense at all. Every situation is different and following a script is how people who lack knowledge or lack confince approach a negotiation.

    @8thnote LOL...WUT??!!

No. I actually took business negotiations class in my undergrad, and yes, it's the only 1 class that has paid for itself, over & over again.

I agree, every situation is different, and THAT'S why its called negotiations. This is not a game of checkers or tic-tac-toe. The skill of not spilling out a number the very first time @boredsocial hit's you up, is what will keep you in the red or black. I already have multiple ways of responding to his Warren Buffet example, should he ever try that line with me.

EDIT: I tend to frustrate new car sales people, but love to do the dance with experienced ones.

@nax is actually right about that being a rule. It's car dealership 101, collections 101, dispatcher 101, and freight brokerage 101. #### it's the whole concept of position in poker. I would amend it to 'he who makes the first reasonable offer loses'... And I would point out that being required to make the first reasonable offer caused almost every retailer in America to stop negotiating just like I've advocated in this thread. That happened such a long time ago that negotiation has stopped being part of the normal retail experience for the average American. Actually probably a very bad thing seeing as most people are very inexperienced negotiators when haggling about salaries, houses, cars, and any kind of contractor/collections situation. Probably wouldn't be a bad thing if everyone got a bunch of reps in haggling over produce.

I'd be ok with Google doing it... I really like Google products (they got there issues but it's not customer service)
Can't wait for the day Google realizes us truckers would pay 100+ for a truck gps that works as good as Google maps does for cars (they already have the data they just aren't using it)

What you have said makes complete sense.
I understand the feeling of intrusion but I got over it a long time ago. Nobody likes ELDs either but they are a fact of life. As I stated in my previous post these tracking apps are nothing but good. They are free and save a headache for everyone involved.
To try to charge a broker for using them is like charging that broker for communicating with you through an email or a text message. These are business tools and a cost of doing business. So are wheels on the truck.
Convoy is the classic app and probably where the industry is headed. An app where I can pick, negotiate, communicate, submit paperwork and be tracked all in one. Calls are at a bare minimum with these people.
Technology marches forward you can either get onboard or be left behind.

At the moment I don't haggle too much. Before I call I have a price in mind. It is based on multiple factors. Distance, # of drops, weight, likelhood of a hold up, starting point and same with ending, weather and on and on. The calculation is almost instant.
I am sometimes offered stupid amounts usually by those who enjoy curry. Those calls end very quickly.
I use 2 brokers constantly out of a list of 10. One in particular. He and I have the same attitude. If we screw each other we achieve nothing. We make each others lives easier. So the money part is pretty simple. He knows what I am looking for, doesn't get stupid and is extremely helpful.
Then there are the automated apps, they are a piece of cake. The only time negotiating comes into play properly is when it is a completely from left field player. A wild phone call or something from my load board. Even then it isn't some Moroccan market place experience. It is invariably a take it or leave it from both sides. I will say no or he will say no and that is that. If I get an extra $100 I am happy.
    Could be much worse.
I much prefer to work with the guys I have a relationship with as it avoids a great deal of silliness..
