I highly doubt shippers are going to care about if there is an elog in the truck or not.

Do they care about the carriers safety performance more now than ever? Yes, but only on the front end.

 

Junkie was the first word that popped in my head when thinking of the majority of the shady, low down, no class Chicago area companies, but thank you for attempting to read my mind. Surely a lot of them do have nice trucks. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

I would think exceptional service would come from a professional looking company as well. Someone who rolls around in a truck with bandaid repairs and different color painted hoods and the like to me is "Junkie" and absolutely unprofessional.

Don't you think a customer paying top dollar to a company to haul it's freight deserves at least a uniform looking truck and not some ragged looking piece of junk?

I thought when your an Owner Operator your supposed to have Pride in your equipment?

 

Id argue that to a point. If their logo is on the trailer maybe - but what do they care if they dont benefit from a better looking truck?

 

Looks trashy and unprofessional. If someone doesn't care about the equipment they are driving they sure aren't going to care about my freight they are hauling.

 

The people pushing for industry wide elogs have always been the big mega carriers. See when you get to a certain size the advantages of paper logs disappear completely. Paper logs give you the ability to very selectively violate HOS rules when the situation requires it. As a big carrier that's not profitable because one mega cat claim could be 40M dollars.

So some bright guy invented elogs to make sure their drivers were always compliant. And now they are using their big government friends to make sure all of you do too because they can't allow you to have your one solitary advantage. No they want to buy trucks in bulk at a 30% discount, drivers just out of school for .34 cents a mile, massive fuel discounts because of scale, massive tire discounts because of scale. But if you have an advantage structurally over them they are going to legislate it out of existence.

God bless America. And my more liberal friends can't figure out how Trump got elected... It might be that us small business people experience government regulation mostly as a castle built around whatever industry we wanted to enter. The walls built and manned by the people already inside the industry looking to stop us from competing.

 

You see the truck in my sig. Thats mine. Its paid for. The trailer behind it cost me almost twice what I paid for the truck.

Thing is I am not into show boating, I dont care about chrome or looking like a million bucks going down the road. I care more about the reliability and making money. I have nice toys at home that I can go hang out with people who actually are my friends and never need to worry what they think about me because of what I own.

That truck in my sig makes as much or more than the "Money" trucks that you describe. Being an O/O is about self discipline and putting money in the bank. The shippers who pay my bills dont give 2 chits what my truck looks like. All they care about is their cargo making it from point A to point B in a safe and timely manner. Nothing more,.. nothing less.
