While I applaud Lucar for participating in the study (I had a brief moment of insanity where I considered it), I don't think it will matter. The FMCSA is hell bent on mandating E-logs, speed limiters, and the old HOS rules. You can thank the ATA for all this including the fact that a study is even being done because they want the old HOS reset rules as well as the rest of the BS stuff. It's the same old story, the government will study and conclude the people with the most money to donate to political campaigns will get what they want regardless of what's best or right.

i guess I'm going to have to agree with Rollin Coal and Gokiddo, it will probably result in capacity tightening which will mean more money for less work for me and I'm all good with that!

When e-logs are mandated a fresh 11/14 will become a hot commodity as the day wears on.

Here's an idea....when I went through Special Forces Assessment and Selection, we wore vests that monitored our vital signs (BP, respirations per minute, heart rate, core body temp, perspiration, etc). These vests communicated instantly to the cadre as well as medical staff. They knew where we were, and could honestly make a valid assumption as to whether or not you were doing what you were supposed to be doing (ie, NOT sleeping; going all out for 3 days straight was the norm back then).

LET'S MAKE TRUCKERS WEAR THEM AND TIE THEM INTO THE ECU SO THE TRUCK KNOWS WHEN YOU'RE TIRED AND IT MAKES YOU PULL OVER AND SLEEP!!!! LET THEM ALSO BE TIED INTO A GPS TO RELAY REAL TIME DATA OF HOW YOU'RE DOING TO THE DOT!!!

I'm being facetious, by the way. I'm sorry if you can't read "sarcasm".

I learned one thing more than any other when I was in the Army, "back in the day". Don't volunteer for anything. It was just the nature of the times I guess. Nonetheless, I have embraced that. When gooberment claims to want me to volunteer for something, it falls on deaf ears. I just walk away. I don't even volunteer to haul gooberment freight. My relationship with the gooberment is like a tick to a dog. Gooberment is the tick. It already sucks enough blood from me. I am not going to offer it a vein.

I'm starting to have second thoughts, but then that's exactly why we need to jump on this so at least we'd know we've done something about/for it and won't just simply feel the abuse of it.

there was already a post here about them giving arm bands, wrist bands that monitor your oxygen level and tell your dispatcher that you are sleepy

Just like voting.....if you don't vote you don't have the right to bitc*.

This study are they just looking at what you do everyday like food intake and driving hours and is this all under the current HOS rules?
If not under the HOS rules what happens if you get pulled over do you show them a "get out of jail free" card?

I cant do this study as I am stuck local (medical waiver) but if it did not interfere with my job (too much) I think I would give it a try.
Keep us posted on this trip of yours.

They need more input on variables during the study like meal size and times, type of meal (processed, high sugar, fatfood vs minimally processed), temp. of sleeper, type of mattress, parking availability and noise levels, amount and times of physical exercise during the day, shower/no shower, road conditions (bumpy, smooth), traffic conditions, weather, it all affects sleep quality.

There should be a non-controlled group that is allowed to operate without constraint for comparison. No HOS pressures. Driver is allowed to sleep when tired and roads are jammed and drive when rested and roads are clear.

Then compare the alertness monitoring data of each group. I think FMCSA would be shocked at the truth.

    thats probably a great idea

one group, under complete control, monitoring sleep, speed, food, all the bells and whistles that fmcsa wants to throw at us

the other, a bunch of seasoned OUTLAWS, no HOS, nothing but the open road and open trucks

same loads, same time frames, etc

    let the best man/sheeple win
