i agree with some of the analysis about dump trucks. the suspension is quite stiff and yes you feel it. my experience has been that no truck really rides well they are all stiff to varying degrees, but yes a dump truck can toss you around worse then any other type no question. it seems to be allot worse when empty. bridge joints, if they are bad enough can be a real blast.
there is ALLOT of shifting involved, but it has made for good practice. i really have only been shifting for a short period of time. that stupid werner truck was an automatic, WHY do they put students in automatic trucks..... defies logic. manual trucks are still a HUGE part of the industry. personally i dont mind the shifting part, what i dont like is how my knee feels by the end of the day. yes i use a clutch, all day long.
around here its a big part of the local trucking scene, and milk hauling..... which pays poorly. milk hualing = long hours and worse pay. i have no reason to hate this type of work. i am home everynight AND im still in a truck, not working some lame factory job.
i will give my brief stay in OTR credit for being an interesting experience. before i went to trucking school i had no desire to ever do otr in the first place, i wanted to drive a truck just not in that sense. heck im driving truck so im happy, i might end up at a different company but i plan on remaining in the scene in some way.
i will finish this by saying i am grateful for all of the men and women that are willing to drive OTR, as i imagine they are grateful for my efforts as they wouldn't have roads to drive on. everything within trucking matters.The_Great_Corn Thanks this. -
i must admit, i do like not having to worry about the 53' trailer behind me...... not saying i wont ever drive a tractor trailer either just saying it takes allot of stress off the plate.
if i do end up driving tractor trailer at some point its probably going to be a flowboy and i think if im not mistaken, they are 48 footers. nearly none of tractor trailers in the industry have sleepers.
a 53' van plus a sleeper truck is probably over 70 foot long. i never really cared for that lenght, its allot of real estate. then you have morons on the road that try to cut in on the inside of your turn. bad things CAN happen.The_Great_Corn Thanks this. -
this is like a prelude to a workplace shooting. you got all the right qualities to pull a murdercide
VIDEODROME, AModelCat and Dumdriver Thank this. -
Why can't this dude spell "a lot" correctly. At this point all I see is "whahhh WAHHH (random all caps for no reason) wahhh- ALLOT"!
Sorry, it's just been driving me nuts. Lol.homeskillet Thanks this. -
So you got your first real job and you think the world should be kissing your ### for the work you do lol
It's okay you're not the first to do this.
Nobody matters out here. No one is irreplaceable. No one cares that you go home when you're done or that you jump in the bunk. The only ones that really care are your family and you so find what works at home and keep your head down for the rest of us.homeskillet, Just passing by, Blackshack46 and 1 other person Thank this. -
one thing that was really satisfying for me is hauling backtop to a road near my home. i hauled to wethersfield rd in north java. every-time i drive on that road, i feel proud that i picked up and delivered quite a few of the roads. something satisfying about making the community you live in better.
i dont expect anyone to kiss my @## but i dont expect my boss to run his mouth with sexual innuendos and lame insults. i am there to do one thing only, do my job to the best of my ability and collect my paycheck for my family. that is all. i joke with friends and family, my boss is neither. he is just some guy that i know that happens to own a bunch of trucks that i drive for. that is all. its called professionalism.
