I am glad I know what I want to do.
But wow there is just so many little things I need to do and they all take time and money.
I went to get my DOT physical, didn't pass the eyesight test. Instead of failing me they just told me to get glasses and come back and take it again.
Then there is the Official Birth Certificate. I found a company that will send me one but it's only for records and it won't count for training company. So I have to sort that out.
-So glasses test,
-Buying glasses
-The CDL Permit
- The money to drive out to the CDL training
-Money for 3 weeks of food.
- The driving test and license
Considering getting a job before training just so I can take care of everything comfortably
So many little things to take care of before Training

I ended up driving 2.5 hours one way to my hometown for an official embossed birth certificate. Get two copies while your there. They are cheap, and good to have a spare for safe keeping.
Then I had to take it to the local S.S office to get a new Social Security card. I hadn't laid hands or eyes on my card for I bet 25 years.
Just keep on moving forward, ya know. -
Trucking will still be around.
Every time I see people at truck stops begging for a ride some where, I always wonder why they didn't just get a job at McDonald's (or anywhere) for a couple weeks to buy a bus ticket. Wouldn't it be MUCH easier? I turn them down every time...and (if I'm having a bad day) some times even suggest it. -
To get your birth certificate, you go to the county clerk office of the city you were born in. Some offices even have it set up where you can request it online and fax a copy of your drivers license and then they will mail you a notarized copy.
Locke Thanks this. -
Assuming these companies want to see a birth certificate to prove you are a US citizen, wouldn't a passport be good enough for that?.
Or do they want other info from it such as mother's maiden name etc?. -
Redtwin Thanks this.

Yeah, I can understand that. The thing is I know exactly where my passport is...my birth certificate...errr.
Maybe they should change the requirement to "proof of eligibility to live and work in the United States". Then again I suppose that would just lead to lots of questions from people not knowing what that proof would be. -
Yeah, I don't have a passport. And all I have ever needed for a job was a Valid Drivers License and my SS card.
I Need to call the county office where I was born and see if I can get them to mail me a copy.
