My experience with a trainer running as a team was good. I found it nice to have the cab to myself while. Once I upgraded, I went with another account-specific trainer that is in the passenger seat a lot more. All the comments over every little thing I do that he doesn’t agree with gets under my skin. Their small talk can be distracting, then you make a mistake and they call you out. Or they reach across your view to use the air horn. My first trainer understood that and stayed in the sleeper most of the time, exception to city driving, truck stops and terminal parking.

If your brand new to the industry unfortunately you'll have to do the training thing which yes means you'll have to go out on the road and be trained so not sure if the training length is based on just how well you pick up on things or you've got to do a set amount of time regardless, for me i'd tell them straight if i'm confident i can do the job on my own i'd be going solo the first chance i got. Basically it means your trainer can just sit in the cab and not have to tell you anything cause you doing it so well. Then you know your ready to go solo, for me i'd actually be teaching the trainer a thing or two but then i've been driving for ages. And could be a trainer myself. Not sure why you'd need help going through town unless there's some tight turns? Freeways you just keep on rolling through, with the GPS that's even easier it'll tell you where to turn,.talk about spoilt drivers.

I have talked with drivers and ex-drivers.
I am of the understanding that tankers have historically been hard to get into a job with no experience in tankers.
    IS IT STILL LIKE THAT?
If I go tankers out of the gate, they can never take that away from me.

I would probably go tanker. Shippers and receivers have been hands down better to deal with than van freight.

too bad you're not in nor cal ... we have like 3 tanker companies right now hiring FRESH out of school, home every night starting at around 14-1800 a week plus full benefits. I'll be going over to one of them in about 6 months only because i'm happy/satisfied with where i'm currently at & need to lose about 20 pounds haha & that will happen pretty quick with the hard work lol (convenience store delivering). Tanker is definitely where the easy & quite often very good money is at though imo, & if i were you i'd try to START with a tanker company
