Just completed my training and I'll be going solo come Monday.
Now the real challenge begins. Gonna be different w/out my trainer there to help me outta a jam.
He hardly ever smiled. And he reminded me that I could still swallow my pride after having my arse chewed out for goofing up and move on.
Anybody else remember their first day driving solo?
Come on, be honest!
I'll let ya know how mine goes, Monday.
So Monday is a big(ger) day...

Are you a local cement hauler?

First day solo?
Yeah....wake up hooked to a set of doubles with 3 inches of ice everywhere!
So smooth....you would think somebody came through with a Zamboni! -
Never had a trainer sitting in the jump seat. I was solo from the first day, following and trying to keep up with him, someone that had 20yrs driving under their belt.otherhalftw Thanks this. -
I wouldn't want to drive on that crap! -
I was more relaxed my first day alone.
I had passed orientation, training, KLLM's written test and their road test! I was in!!!
Now instead of being graded on every move I made, all that mattered was being safe, accident free and on time.
Having a CB helped. I could ask questions.
I remember one TS in PA where the only spots left (actually most the spots) were a blind back and so tight we had to pull our mirrors in to not hit them together. But every driver waited in his/her truck until the spots next to theirs were filled. To help the parking driver so the rigs would not get bumped...
I would wish you good luck, but you made it. You don't need it! Instead I will wish you good weather and no traffic/construction! heheheheee
Oh, and a decent dispatcher also.

If you stay in bed with the blankets pulled up over your head all day long, you can say you had a perfect day.
LaBubba Thanks this. -
Getting the load there safely, accident free, on time is all I'm concerned about. And I'm allowing myself plenty of time to do it. And... to get lost of course.
SOME call it chicken. I call it safe. I'd rather be a "chicken" with my rig on the road than a Hard Core with my rig in a ditch!otherhalftw Thanks this. -
I had a great day
First day solo and no problems. Well, other than that there was a leg of my trip not on paper but good 'ol iPhone "Maps" app and I got together and I figured it out.
Felt good to not have to second guess myself wondering what would my trainer do.
