Good afternoon, i have been lurking here for the longest just reading opinions of others. I still have six weeks of training left at Cape Fear Community College in Castle Hayne, NC. I had a 3 week break due to the holidays and resume class on the 6th, during the break I have taken and passed the doubles / triples test and tanker test, I cant do hazmat or twic until i get my birth certificate.
I have also filled out numerous online applications and have answered numerous calls from recruiters. So far the 3 companies on my list are 1. conway trucking 2. prime inc. 3. swift. I still have numerous unanswered applications. I am willing to drive all 48 states, found out i can't drive into canada because of a dui i had 25 years ago as a young marine, oh well, at least everything else is good to go.
well, if anyone would like to comment or make some suggestions please feel free.

Canada is extremely strict with respect to admitting people with a DUI conviction or any criminal records. Surprisingly for Americans, they consider DUI to be a serious crime which will prevent you from entering. If you have a DUI conviction, then you are a member of an "inadmissible class." In fact, when President Bush took office, there was some question whether he could travel to Canada because of his old DUI conviction.
The Canadian Consulate has set up a web site to tell you how to get "rehabilitated" if you have a DUI conviction.Moon_beam and Skydivedavec Thank this. -

You may be a little far east for Epes Transportation, Greensboro. Don't know how they will be with an old DUI. There is a thread for Epes trans on this forum. PM sdaniels or flyingmusician and they will let you know. Seems like a good company to work for. I am relocating to NC and they were top on my list before they went to "home weekly" from "home weekends"

You will have more choices once you aquire the hazmat & TWIC.
In the meantime look at Howard Transportation, good smaller company with a terminal in NC.
Ozark Motor Lines is OK, 100% no-touch freight/no Canada/no NYC.
Both these companies hire new CDL grads.briarhopper Thanks this. -
here is one of many links with the information http://www.canadainternational.gc.c...visas/rehabilitation-readaptation.aspx?view=d even the great President Bush had problems entering canada. C'mon, you don't mess with Reagan or Bush, even chuck norris bows to these guys
