you are in for an education Running the business end is harder then running the truck its self if you are going to have a driver out there and you in the office set up a fedex account and a fax line and make sure you handle all paper through you and have copies of everything you get or send. As for whats a good rate that all depends on your cost of operation I break everything into a cost per day for myself ex: truck & trailer 5k a month = 166.66 per day insurance 33.00 dollars a day = fixed overhead of 199 per day driver wages 300.00 per day so the run must cover that + fuel & maint of say 500 per day so in other words you need 1000.00 to make 1.00 your number will very but that is where you will need to be educated in a hurry also remember that every day that truck sits it still cost you your fixed overhead so figure 5 days a month it wont move for what ever reason there goes 1k for zip and to do it best you need to be able to carry that load till the checks start coming in or then you start giving money to factoring companies So you need to figure out what is a good rate I do oilfield work and see many guys jump in as of late because they think they will make a killing at the rates but they do so not understanding the cost associated with my kind of work and the next thing you know they bought a new harley and are humming the theme song from the jeffersons and then there gone
