I wasn't sure where to post this, but I thought this might work. This might be good news for a lot of drivers who are hoping to see less competition and higher pay rates. Best of luck out there!
Marco Rubio posted the following on X today:
"Effective immediately we are pausing all issuance of worker visas for commercial truck drivers. The increasing number of foreign drivers operating large tractor-trailer trucks on U.S. roads is endangering American lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers."LH98, kemosabi49, silverspur and 2 others Thank this. -

I guess that I'm a huge part of the problem because in my 10+ years of driving, I've never learned how to read a map. I want to pat myself on the back for not driving distracted/fatigued, not speeding and taking the initiative to complete all the assigned training provided by the trucking companies. I'd consider myself to be of the ilk that relies heavily on GPS to guide me to next destination.
I've been holding this steering wheel and proceeding to the highlighted route displayed on the McNally device for a decade... and I'm not ashamed of it. In the 90s, I watched my mom sit with the Rand McNally atlas and highlighter in hand while she doctored up her logs in order to stay compliant. Back then, the companies she worked for required that their drivers keep a written log of all the mileage spent on each road. On top of that, having to frequent payphones (w/ change) to obtain directions to destinations!? That's a lot of homework
I wouldnt have been able to hold down a trucking job for long if it were still like that.Last edited: Aug 31, 2025

A trucker who never learned to read a map is no different than the builder who never learned to read blueprints.

Just a caveat to non-english speakers. I am not talking about those who aren't fluent in the language and struggle a bit. I am talking about those who are being genuine dicks. I was at a customer the other day, and this, let's just say his commie ### uses the cyrillic alphabet pretended he didn't understand what the lady was asking him. I understand a good deal of that commie language, and he was pretending he didn't understand even when she asked him what company he drove for. I don't know what his game was, but it was Russian communism, anti-Rambo, Stalin loving wrongness by God!

If you don't have a Ph.D in trucking and at least 30 years of driving experience you shouldn't even be allowed to make eye contact with a truck.
Give the DOT fighter jets, tanks, and nuclear weapons. Every white Volvo gets an ICBM direct to the driver side door. Starting 0600 tomorrow.
