The title says it all. I thought it might be a good idea to BE HONEST with what your making, and moving and then others will know and MAYBE the rate can get up a bit more, instead of people hauling cheap freight.
Do not lie no one likes liars,be honest whats it going to hurt, really!
I think also if everyone is on the same page and know what the real rates are then maybe people will stop taking cheap runs,I know personally theres are a lot of confusion on my part as to what pays what, and what things should pay.it is not an easy game.
It you wanted to be real nice you can break it all down and show what the take home is.

I got on butter and it pays $8.13 a mile. I should have four $1300 revenue days with only 160 miles a day

I'm bringing a load of frozen peaches from Bonner springs Ks, to Harlingen Tx.and is actually paying 215 a mile.It took me a while but I finally found a good honest broker. We need to stick together and start saying no to all this cheap freight, it only hurts us and most important our families. We need to remember, truck repairs, payments, fuel, etc is not cheap. We need to start thinking like what we are bussines professionals and get paid like such.If not you will not last in this business.

SO then do you guys think this is a good idea to see what others are getting paid? I have a repair business and i am closing it up after 11 years due to lack of work.
I am going on the road again as soon as i have the pete ready, drove last summer but didn't get paid long story, and that was always my trouble, was what to charge,i didn't want to over charge or be under and giving my services away.
I was always afraid to ask anyone, you know cuz i was smarter then anyone lol.
I mean geez look at the cost of fuel, and how much a truck cost,or a major repair,or even a tire,or eating on the road it is not like it was when i was a kid and going on the road with family.
unless things where sky high then an i did not know cuz i was a runny nosed kid in the 70's.
But your talking serious issues here, family, home, future, money, and not a lot of return, for what you are putting out including your time away from home,I consider if iam not at home an i am away from home i am working, but if iam not driving i am not earning but i am still working cuz i am not at home.make sense?
It still appears the wrong people are getting the majority of the money in this industry and people need to realize hey your not alone and do something about it.

    cable,

I bought my truck and trailer last july KNOWING that I was going to move from dry van to reefer someday. I just didn't know WHEN that someday would be.

I got connected with another person and we started to compare notes on everything. Rates, costs of operations, cost of maintenance etc.

February, I finally made the jump. I moved from one carrier to another, got out of my dry van and got my reefer.

I was typically seeing a net profit at the end of the month constantly of $2000 or less with the dry van and I was running my butt off. 9000-13000 mile months.

The other night I did my quarterly Profit and Loss. I went from under $2000 profit monthly to almost $7000 net profit for March already on all loads booked or ran so far through Monday, 3/18. The only months I came close to that with the dry van, I had over $7000 in fuel costs. Those are months I ran myself ragged making a dime. This month, my fuel cost is under $4000 compared to $7500-8000.

I give the rate I want, if they don't like it, I move on. I don't care. I might call on 10 loads. I will make an offer on 4-6. I might take 1 or 2 of those loads. There is a LOT of chaff to sift through to get the load you want.

Trust me, I'm thinking hard about it.... It would be hard to leave my little brother all alone in Cali though, and I know he wouldn't be able to handle the winters, he's a native southern cal kid and absolutely hates cold weather.... me? I spent a decade in New England and love the brisk winter air..lol...
