There is always someone who will get great rates some times. I just care about how I need to run. because some needs different pay than others. though we all want top pay. I have been around the guys with the most expensive equipment hauling for less than I would to keep moving. I never have a grudge against any driver or co that hauls what I would consider cheap. in a free market that is what happens. I start from home, leave at 1:00 a.m. drive 15 miles load 1 coil. usually in & out of mill in 30 minutes. drive 175 miles. interstate all the way, 6 miles on 4 lane hiwy. unload at approx 5:a.m. drive 2 miles reload no tarp load drive 165 miles & unload, then drive 20 miles home. pay is $800.00 to the truck a day. now the pay per mile for all miles may be considered cheap to some. to me it is good for me. I wish I made more. but I have made less.

I have no wait to speak of loading.unloading. I never have to idle my truck. I do not have a stop & go red light route. 99% 70 m.p.h. route. I miss all the main traffic going & returning. I am home everyday before noon & enough time to have any work done, like tire repair & other things. after seeing what others do in my area, my gig beats almost all of them. at least the ones I know of. I am sure there are some who do a lot better, but they are not talking. I pull flatbed. paid $15,000 cash for truck in 99' & $9,000 for trailer. still using both everyday. we cannot always do what the other guy is doing. I don't try. I just try to do what I want. if I knew I could do something different & make a considerable positive difference, I may try it. until that scenario presents itself. I will remain doing my current gig. I have never heard of a driver doing as well as mn driver. but I am glad for him. my home to the distance from where I load & the return load is less than 20 miles, so little things like that make a difference. there is a huge amount of competition in my area. I am lucky to have the work I have.

Why would you tell your competition your rate? Cutting your own throat is not conducive to survival. I want my competition to shrivel up and die, not thrive and eliminate me.

I am not new to reefer, so this was an wash move for me.

I pick my loads so if it looks like it's going to be a nightmare, I walk away from it.

You been in the game long enough, do you really think it is going to matter what someone knows what your hauling and for how much to help keep rates up? whats the big deal, competition will be here for ever.

Really this is almost akin to giving away your contact phone numbers. Might as well give away phone numbers... Never mention city/state pickups/deliveries on an open forum... Not anyones business where you pickup/deliver and what rate you did it for.. ..kum-bah-yah "let's stand together and work on getting rates up"........ yeah right!! One man's cheap $2.25 is another's gold mine as low as a $1.75 or worse!!! There's no telling how many hundreds if not thousands of unregistered visitors to this website (your competitors), not to mention registered users, see that info and have the same ease of access to loadboards as you...

Actually, it does matter. I've seen it happen more than once, in my long career. I'm willing to give general information, about how to do some things. But, when it comes to rates, customers and other specifics, you are on your own. I am not into slitting my own throat. You are not my brother, you are my competitor and will be treated as such.
