Current Navy Reservist. In the private sector, I was in IT. Spent a year looking for work before the opportunity with Prime came across my bow.

    Still just a wannabe.
Been an automotive mechanic for the better part of 17 years. Early on, after being laid off from my first job in the automotive field (a new car dealer), I delivered car parts and pizza and dabbled in factory work.
It took about 4 months in 3 factories (temp agency on 2 of them) to decide I never wanted any part of that ever again, so I got back into fixing cars via a transmission shop. 13 years later, I'm moving on.
Funny thing is, I remember sitting in the lunch room my very first day on the job at that dealership many years ago thinking I made a huge mistake getting into the car business. A person doesn't always know themselves very well when they're just out of high school having to make life-long decisions. Not saying we aren't capable of it at that age, but it seems that society as it's set up keeps us unnecessarily immature for too long in some ways, while forcing us to grow up too fast in others.
Oh well. Point is, pushing 40, I have a much better grasp on who I am and what I'm capable of putting up with.

As for getting the trucking bug, that happened a long time ago. Dad drove a flatbed (mostly) throughout the time I was in my teens and twenties. We even talked about him training me and running team for a while. I was a couple years too young for his company to hire me, and for whatever reason, I didn't pursue other avenues at the time.
Just as well. My wife and I met a few years afterward. Had I been out on the road, we wouldn't have.

Long before law enforcement I had a job driving across country setting up and performing marionette shows. There was a lot of driving and I logged a lotta miles that first year. It was the truckers that I talked to at night and once they learned I wasnt some jackhole 4 wheeler I made a lotta friends.

I worked at a golf course as an irrigation tech. Pay sucked. But I miss the physical work. Because it kept me in shape.

Welcome to the forum. Another brother LEO I know took a job as a limo driver. He said it was great when you were driving the coporate types around the city and airport runs. The problem is when you gotta haul the "party animals". He said I use to arrest these kinds of jerkweeds, he quit and got a job as a trucker. In his words " freight dont talk back"..

I spent 26 years in the casino gaming industry, mostly as a pit manager. Then 6 years as a cabinet contractor, and 5 years in the motorcycle business. Each time that I changed careers, I went into something that I enjoyed more. I sure hope this trend continues into retirement!
