This is how I made 110k a year for 3 years. Work 12-16 hours a day with 10 off. Nights. 65-80 hour weeks. Yea, people I knew thought I was doing well and some wanted to get their CDL but ran after I told them what I had to do to get it. I’m at the point now where I’d rather work 45 (50 tops) and live modestly and budget because the quality of life absolutely sucks. They don’t tell you that in truck driver school...

Anyone care to comment on Reddaway? Mixed threads on here. They are hiring. My wife is sick of me doing nights so I’m looking into p&d. OD, FXF, and Estes aren’t hiring in this area currently. We also have ABF, Saia, YRC, and Central. All not hiring but I probably wouldn’t go for any of those. There are also the handful of local ltl outfits too. Must be a reason only Reddaway is hiring...

    None of them are hiring?

    Try R&L, or did you?

I’ve seen r&l trailers around but not the truck. Usually one of the no name local ltl carriers pulling them.

It’s a small pool around here. Every ltl you can think of is here but this is an end of the line area. Definitely not a break bulk hub. Small Northwest city. Wife wants me on days to help with the kids. Been on some interviews and got offered the job (not ltl) but the hours and pay aren’t there. I’m the sole income in the house. Definitely a reason nights pay. Been on nights for 5 years. Hate it but it bought us a house and keeps wife at home with the kiddies. Would love to get just 50-55 hours doing p&d.

At the beginning of the year, this would have been accurate. But a lot has changed. Lol

Either way, at this point in the year it may be best to stick it out until spring. LTL winter slow down is right around the corner, and being at the bottom of any p&d board may make you end up sitting home a lot.

The Reddaway TM there is from the northeast, he seemed fair when I met him. He might want to retire soon. They are hiring because pay rate is lowest in town and tractots are old, so drivers start there and move on.

USF used to be an amazing company.

    Way to go, Bill Zollars.
