I call it my "man cocoon". I get tired of that truck sometimes, but usually after a few days off I actually miss it a little and am ready to go back. There's something kind of nice about a small amount of possesions, keeping everything in it's place, etc.... At home I feel like I've lost control, can't find things.... On the road I have every single thing I need to do my job, no more, no less. organized, neat, ready to go.
So, what's it like living in a truck?

Its as comfortable as you want to make it. I will always reccomend a Volvo truck! No, they have no balls BUT I would trade comfort for power any day. At least, when youre truck is governed. Lol. I have every amenity in my truck from a flat screen TV, to a crock pot, to Sirius radio. Sometimes you just need to get out and look at something else but for the most part, its pretty nice.

It really isn't too bad. I have my laptop with plenty of movies and shows on it, along with internet thru hotspot on my cell phone. I have a fridge stocked with food I bring from home each week, along with a lot of shelf items, all of which I can heat up in the truck. I plug the laptop into the stereo when I play a movie and get surround sound. I can make coffee in the truck. Even the qualcomm unit in the truck has pinball, solitaire, and other games to play when sitting at a dock. 70" sleeper with more cabinet space than I actually need, with built in fridge/freezer. I don't use satellite radio anymore, but I have iHeart app on my phone along with other station apps and can listen to most anything I like thru the radio via the phone.
I guess I have it a little better with all that, in that, I go home each weekend and am usually by the house once or twice a week. And I am not on a dedicated run either. Just good load planning.overfloater and HwyPrsnr Thank this. -
Hmm well its not too bad until you got your wife, and kid in it... then and only then can it be tough!

I disagree some times you get stuck and have to spend a few days in there ! I want it comfortable. and most newer ones are I used to sleep so hard it kinda scared me sometimes as you kind of have to keep aware so someone doesn't steal you blind or mess with your truck. It is nice though when you get tire the bed is about 2 feet away.

The thing I like about sleeping in the truck is that every morning I wake up and I'm somewhere other than where I was before. It's kinda neat to sleep in a different state every night, but after a while you just become used to it, and it's no big deal anymore. But there are still some places I haven't been to, like the northwest. I'm sure if I ever do go out there, I'll wake up in the morning and think "Well this is cool, I've never woken up in Idaho before."
What sucks the most about sleeping in a truck is if you're a team operation. Then it's not easy to get sleep. But if you get good enough, you can wake up and tell where you're at by how the road feels underneath the tires. Especially if you're on a dedicated route. I used to be able to pinpoint within 10 miles of where we were by looking at the time, and how bad the truck was shaking. -

I guess with my mentality " if I have to be here more than 24 hours" checking into a hotel is my choice, and I know someone is going to say that gets expensive, and my answer is dont work for such cheap companies.. Also it is a Tax Deduction nothing greater than having 500 sq ft versus being stuck in a sleeper for a long period of time regardless of how small or big it is. Fact is the choke and pukes that are out there now are not like the greasy spoons of the days of independents truck stops. The TA flying hook, pee lots and petros do not have the greatest offering of food sorry to offend those who think it is great, but you have no clue to what great food is if you rate truck stop choke and pukes as great food.. There are a few (very FEW) independent truckstops that have good food..
The Wagon Wheel in Idaho is one, although they closed the little hotel down..
