But how do you know the key hasn't been stolen or fallen off while you drove or it was parked? The people back home think they are clever hiding house key under the door mat, in a flower pot, over the door etc.

Another Canadian driver and PE_T Thank this.

I'm that way with my apartment key. I use a deadbolt and have to have the key to lock it from the outside. very small chance of leaving the keys inside.

In my case, this is why I used a large wire tie. It took a knife to get that off. ZERO chance of it just falling off. As to the other? It is what it is. I did my best to obfuscate the key. Thing is if someone is comfortable enough raising my hood, they are just as comfortable deploying another method.

That was always my system as well and it worked pretty good until one day climbing down from the truck I rested my forearm on the lock and pressed it down unbeknown to me and shut the door when I got out. $200 later and almost running late for my load I had a spare key made that I hide outside the truck. LOL

Hide a piece of banding strap outside your truck, works real well for slipping in the door

Buy 10 keys and secure them all over your truck. Hahaha.

Another tip I’d like to share that is related to this is always make your keys noticeable to avoid losing them. Also throw in a name tag you can get customized with your name, email address, or phone number in a key machine at Walmart.
