No they don't what? Paper logs are still widely used in some states, mainly by people driving pre-2000 trucks. Here in California there aren't many of those trucks left, and within a couple years you won't be able to even bring them into the state legally. There aren't many legal uses for paper logs out here any longer. These loads with short delivery times are getting posted more frequently. So you're saying that it's only guys who can fudge their logs that are accepting them?

So it's easy for people using AOBRD to alter logs? I'm not familiar with them so I haven't a clue.

FWIW I personally know of 4 glider kits that run CA every week. They simply avoid the areas that CARB usually sets up. So there is no doubt there are a ton of paper log trucks still running out there and overnighting loads that others can’t.

By the end of 2019, pre-2011 trucks will need a 2011 or later engine, as well as particulate filters retrofitted or there will be a $25,000 fine if you get caught. All 2011 through 2013 sleeper-cab tractors must be SmartWay designated models. So it appears to still be legal through the end of this year.

I’m aware of what’s legal. Are you naive enough to believe that everyone running out there is legal now? Old engines will continue to run out there until they set up a checkpoint at the border on every highway going in to the state.

    Kawinige01 and JerryD13 Thank this.

Maybe you should go back and read what I wrote in post 182. I said within a couple years they won't be allowed in the state. I know they're running out here now with paper, but the numbers are decreasing quickly. When the laws and fines kick in, there won't be a load worth risking a $25k fine for.

By the way, they already have an agricultural checkpoint at every highway coming into the state as well as immigration check points on more isolated roads. It will be an easy modification to check for CARB compliance.

And every Ag checkpoint isn’t 24 hours. And CARB doesn’t like being out anywhere in the dark. If I’m wrong and in 2 years all the old trucks running paper logs in CA suddenly get turned around at the border I will come back and apologize to you.

What if I also told you that the gliders with old engines that I know are out there weekly also don’t comply with the KPRA rule? What if I also said I ran out there twice a week for two years with a trailer that wasn’t KPRA legal? It’s not that difficult to get around CA without following all their dumb rules. It’s a big state with a lot of roads.

That's true. But is it worth the risk involved? The fines are huge if you get caught...and people do get caught.

Having seen all those trucks running there, If they actually enforced it, this old engine truck cleansing, the rates into and out of CA would jump 300%.

I think it depends on the ELD device and provider. On the Omnitracs under ELD use (no AOBRD), every edit of status will appear on the document that is emailed to the DOT officer. It will also show the original status and remark, among other details that were not on the AOBRD.

On a second thought, I’m starting to think there is a way to do it even on the Omnitracs, but if your company were to be audited in ELD compliance (if there is such a thing), you will probably get caught. Now, if you’re referring to hacking the software, well, I suppose it’s possible.
