From what I have read and from what someone I know that works there they make much more than 200 a week more like 1000-1300 a week however they do work their rear-ends off. They also are home daily and have weekends off. I just doubt they would hire someone like myself until I got x many miles or 1 year verifiable driving.

Have you ever seen the calf muscles on some of them guys in food service from running loaded dollies up and down them ramps all day. Usually never see a pudgy fella doing that job. Not if he has been at it long anyway.

And there is no way to calculate the added value and benefit of a job that helps ya keep from becoming an unhealthy chubby bubby.

Be careful on the thought that this job is an "adventure". It's a crap lifestyle where you trade your life for a paycheck. But if you have no home or family or hobbies, have at it.

You know... I did t make as much my first year as I could of... I didnt run as effeciently as I do now.. and I didnt know the ropes.. so I didnt know how to communiate with my dispatcher as well as I do now.. and I wasnt at good with shippers and receivers as now...

If I could go back and redo my first year with all that I know now and have learned since I got my CDL in 2009.. I know I would make more money...

I also know I am still learning and getting better and so each year i make mor than i did the year before..

There just are little tricks of the trade that make a big difference.. and all too often as newbies we just dont learn or take in the little things that successful drivers do and so we make it harder for ourselves..

For example... I never use to call the shipper or reciever for directions. .. cause I could get that information from google maps or such... then, one day my truck was in the shop and I got to talking to a veteran driver and a new driver.. they were going back and forth about GPS.. which the newbie swore by and the veteran considered it nice tool but not necessary. . And the newbie said his GPS has gotten him to shippers/receivers without issues 99% of the time.. and the veteran snapped back "but does it help you get assigned a dock faster?"...

I didnt get what he was meaning by that so after the newbie left I asked what he meant by that.. and he said that he always calls the shipper or reciever when he is about an hour away for directions... even if he knows how to get there.. he gets the directs then says thanks and that he will be there within the hour. .. that way they are expecting him..

Well.. I started doing that.. and it did make a difference. ..

yep ! I retired in 2011 at 62....I'm 65 now and I'm ready to challenge any 30 year old to a 5 mile hike ...I can still hang in with my boys hunting , hiking , bike riding etc....yessir quintin.payton , its hard work , but you can make a really great living doing it...when I retired I was running a 3 -day a week schedule....Mon. ( longer 12 hour trip) Tuesday short city run ( 8 hours + or - and hour ) then the same route as Monday on Thursday ( 12 hrs )...= 24 + 9 = 33 hours a week....I grossed around 72,500 the last full year I worked. So the moneys there...
