well i would have thought the name i chose for the forum would have explained my "newness" clearly it took some posts to make sure you understood that. since i drove lowboys for 12 years prior i havent been in this world of trucking. so like i said if its law or industry standard i care not. i show up i give them a 1 hr notice about my company requesting retention after 2 hours or i leave it has gotten me out since i started doing this.
So why haven't more driver's pushed for detention pay?

Got to laugh about this thread. pretty funny.
Well if it is emergency freight, call an expedite company and get it done right.
This isn't like a plant being down because they ran out of parts for production so it makes sense that they line up the trucks to haul from a distributor to some location in the path of the hurricane - they probably expect you to sit out the storm so the stores will be supplied immediately.
2 hours pay is the law, sorry rookie, I agree with G. Antony, moron boss. I've had a couple in my lifetime, just listen to them, say "yep got it" and look it up yourself.flyingmusician and G.Anthony Thank this. -
There is no such law. If there was we'd all be getting paid.
2hrs is industry standard. Anything other than that and/or payments for such is a company policy.
Welcome to the world of door slammers. You either work for a #### company, or one of the few good ones that compensates for this time or stays on the customers to keep the trucks moving.
I work for the latter.
The one time I ever was held up more than 2hrs was a first time customer who demanded the truck be there 15 minutes before appt time or suffer all kinds of consequences lol and then didn't touch the truck until 5hrs later. There was another company guy there as well same thing.
They paid me a $75 layover that they then charged back to the customer as well as the other company guy there with me. Plus, we've never been back there lolLast edited: Aug 29, 2015

well that was the point of my original post that everyone should get it instead of wasting our time and company time. it happened 2 times my 1st week with the company and i got paid but after what i got i told him i wouldnt stay for 7hrs total 5hrs after 2 for that kind of money luckily both times was within 20 miles of home terminal.

The place I worked for it said on the paperwork that "Demurrage for the first two hours is free, anything beyond two hours is charged back starting from the original appointment time". Meaning if I my appointment was 1:00 p.m. and they didn't unload me until 4:00 that I got three hours detention. The company paid us that then it was up to them to collect it from the customer, there was no "Customer refused to pay, so we cant pay you".
