So by having a CB radio, using traffic reports (some GPSs offer that as an integrated feature) you get off on the exit 25 miles before the pile-up, and laugh at the brain-dead schmucks caught in it.

So how again is logging on paper going to get you out of that without committing a crime????

    KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this.

Yeah that worked out quite well one Saturday running 15 out of LV....
No traffic reports....The Traffic radio was playing a football game...511 didn't have it on their recording....
And the CB...Seriously?...Anyone besides myself still use it?......
Hell....I was on it giving bear reports to the S/B at Apex and no one answered back.....

You're just as late on paper,so you'll have the same broker issues.

Anyway....The ELOGs would be ok if the rules were changed to allow us to "Stop the clock" when things like that happen...
You think the brokers and the Shippers/Receivers will change to adapt?

    Hell no!!!...
    They want it "yesterday"....

The Elogs combined with the new regs benefit the Teams not the Solo O/O's....

    It's gonna be like I said....For the solo O/O...

A load going from LA to Denver will be done with Local drivers doing the D&H thing at Drop-yards at each state border....

The "European Model" is coming to the US....

Personally...I could care less...But this crap can wait until 2025...By then...I'll be retired....

Yeah I know...I'm a little selfish....But no one else is looking out for my own interest except myself...And I'll be dayumed if I'll let the gov't "Protect" me....

I went to college....I learned creative writing....
And don't try to tell us you never embellished when you were on paper....

And anyway....I'm talking 15 minutes here...20 minutes there...
No way am I endorsing for major lying and cheating...
I'm not saying we should "Run 30 hours straight" like one poster here on TTR who likes to brag about it almost daily in the "Sandbox" section of TTR...

If it gets down to where we're gonna be placed OOS for running 1 minute past our "11" or "14"....It's time for all of us to either stand up for our rights or, get the Hell out of the biz....

Your right, and again I will emphasize, it's NOT the ELD in and of it's self that is the problem, it IS just a recording device. The problem IS in the way the regs are written.

The same legal way I've been doing it for years. Get through the pile up or to a safe spot to pull off and park. Log my drive time including the time I'm over on my hours. In the remarks section of log write in how much time I went over and why. Have never had a problem doing it that way. I've never used elogs so don't know if I can do the same thing with them but you can bet I'm not going to park my truck on the side of the road for some yahoo to run into and destroy my way of making income.

The problem is...The remarks or rather the "excuse" section will be removed with the new rules if I read it right....

Point being....The ELOG will work fine for the Company Team drivers....But the O/O is going to get screwed....Not everyone runs where the weather and traffic conditions are perfect...
ELOGs and the new rules don't take in account that "Sheyat Happens"...

Basically it's like a kid getting their behind whooped for breaking a leg....

I haven't read it, but it seems to me that removing the remarks section from the logs would also remove any HOS exception. That seems like it would create more problems than it solved. Remarks do zero harm, and often zero good, but they help to paint a picture.
