IMHO, If you really want the industry to make a statement than pick one state and boycott it, make it a fringe or dead end state, such as Cali. or Fl. If you boycott one state for three days you will have made your statement.
BUT before that happens you need to do your homework, news outlets have to be granted interviews and the general public has to understand this industry's side of the problem, and this has to happen FIRST, otherwise it will be a big black eye for those dirty, filthy, greedy trucking companies, and that is exactly how it will be portrayed.

though those may be good ideas, i think it is far to complicated and takes far too much organization (both are our weak points)
i say, if the fmcsa wants us to run legal, lets all do it
dont miss one item,
if csa wants to penalize you for the smallest issue, then you make that issue important, you do a complete pretrip and post trip, every day
you log on duty not driving for anything you are doing related to work, standing on the dock, waiting to get loaded, even cleaning your mirrors
check your tire pressure, ever day, check your thread depth, all around, all 18 tires, every day, you go underneath and make sure those brake shoes do not have a crack, every day
sitting at the fuel isle for 30 min, waiting for jbhunt to finish his shower is 30min, plus the time to fuel, clean windows, tire check, and getting your receipt, at least 0ne hour there
because each of us knows that would shut trucking down, but since our govt wants to micro manage how we do our job, lets do it they way the government has directed

Mack, I think it's just frustration you are seeing, e-logs and HOS are dictating what this industry is becoming and the direction it is heading, and I think a lot of people, myself included) just feel powerless unless grouped together, and of course that always brings political overtones into a conversation.
I think a lot of folks feel that talking about government issues isn't really political until you start bringing political sides into the discussion.

those Elogs are being mandated by politicians
the HOS are being mandated by politicians
and these politicians do not care how we do our job, they dont even care about safety
YOU and i care more about safety than any fmcsa desk jockey, because we want to come home safe, every day
we dont want to run into a ditch, we dont want to drive tired, and we dont want everyone in the industry being punished for the acts (even mistakes) of a few drivers
4million drivers should not have to suffer because of 1000 mistakes
i dont need anyone to tell me when to drive, i dont drive tired, i get my rest and if that means 5 hours now, and 5 hours later, I know my body better than any politician
if they want to pass laws, pass laws prohibiting a dispatcher from pushing a driver beyond his limits..............thats easy and it applies individually, NOT to the group as a wholeAfterShock, TLeaHeart and Joetro Thank this. -
Replace all of the politicians you want. It will do nothing.
The history of the EOBR is plain since 1990. It was not political. It was special interest groups.
The last great log changes were started back in 2005. It went through many people.
We have been our worst enemy.
However, just so you guys do not feel so slighted, I saw on Facebook where DC fire dept will require a doctor visit for a sick day now. Wonder why?
I have seen many places that no longer have time cards, but have time clocks tied to the finger print.
Just think back and I am one not happy with them telling me to put it in my truck. -
The problem we have though, is this.
The Politics section here has been made unmoderated for a reason, and that is to lighten the load on the staff. On the other hand, we must not allow what goes on there infest the rest of the site and ruin the reputation we've worked so hard to build here at TTR.KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -
Agree totally, but I think that as long as the finger pointing and name calling doesn't rear it's ugly head then just a general discussion can be workable, if it turns that way then of course I think it needs to get moved. It's a thin line to be sure, but alas, everything seems to be a thin line any more.

I really hope the workman's comp lawsuits take off like a 747 and hit those big company owners right between the eyes which is a real possibility as drivers will no doubt be fired.

I'm confused? If fired, a driver "may" have an unemployment claim, not a workmens comp. claim, what am I missing here? Who got injured?
