I'm sure that depends on your systems and the settings that the company elects to turn on.

 

It records everything, like GPS location, speed, RPM, use of gears. The people at the office can tell how fast you were going on a specific section of road.

 

as i was reading your post, i had an image of my wife and kids riding in the truck with me

and when i passed a scale, they told the DOT man everything i did, every time i went one mile or five miles over the speed limit, or that i stopped for coffee and didnt flag it, or that i didnt come to a complete stop at a stop sign, or any other minute detail

not only that, they also recorded what i did and sent it to the safety manager of the company

how long would anyone allow that to go on in their truck?

 

It's been a while since I had a Qualcom in truck but I do remember getting calls from safety asking why and HOW I was doing 88mph more than once...For a seriously hard brake event as well, IIRC...Seems like they may have had this info/tech for a while...

 

Most any company either has this information, or can acces this information through a download.

 

Do you put that in writing?
If one of your out-of-hours to drive drivers should happen to become involved in an incident while followin' your directions to relocate from a bad area to an area safer to take a ten-hours break, would the DOT understand and let it slide? Or, would the DOT excuse your driver from any wrong doing because said driver received your permission to break the law? Or, would the DOT hang both you and your driver for havin' the gall to ignore the law in the best interest of safety? I'm thinkin' it's safe to assume that the DOT would consider such actions as an obvious intentional end-run around the laws that they dream are in the best interest of safety for everyone. The incident your out-of-hours driver became involved with, regardless of fault, would be considered proof that the laws are effectively reducing the number of dangerous Big truck truck drivers who push themselves beyond their ability to operate a Big truck in a safe manner.

Does the DOT consider it safe to remain in a dangerous area for ten hours? Blame the Big truck truck driver for poor trip planning if anything bad happens in an area where bad things happen so often that the police are slow to respond, if they respond at all?

Don't worry 'bout a Big truck truck driver. There's plenty more where that one came from.
Frankly, we're gettin' kinda tired of doin' their thinkin' for 'em, but what other choice is there? Obviously they can't think for themselves (or they wouldn't allow us to do what we do to them, --- buncha ingrates, they don't even thank us.) :smt104

Personally Meltom, I'm impressed and I'd like to shake your hand in thanx for your concern for the safety and well being of your Big truck truck drivers. I just hope that doesn't turn around and bite'cha on the buttox.

Honestly they need to simplify the rules.
Give us 14 hours a day to do whatever we want. As long as you take a 10 hour break the other 14 is yours to so what you want with.
Keep the 34 cause I like actually being home.
Keep the 70.
Done.
Simple.

 

I'm comfortable defending that action in court. I'll put driver safety above DOT fines any day of the week.

 

Court is not the issue.
