I think it's comical how truck drivers think just cause we drive a truck we should be able to do whatever we want.
Every profession is regulated. Pilots are regulated, bus drivers, surgeons, chemists, police officers. I'm sure they all would love to not be regulated and do whatever they want.
The reality is people cannot be trusted to do the right thing if no one is around to watch them. It's been proven time and time and time again. And since the government can't afford to put a baby sitter next to everyone, regulations and laws are the next best thing.
I'm sure when trucking first started they weren't regulated but as more accidents and problems started happening someone had to step in and take control. -
There are TWO heads on this beast: HOS with the @#$% 14 hour window; and the ELOG........to track and report where you are and what you are doin'.......the WHOLE beast has to be addressed.... -
Well guys have proven that they CANT be trusted. They will falsify their logs and keep running until they fall asleep and kill someone.
Will everyone do that? No but a lot would if not for the HOS rules and the threat of being caught.
So since guys have falsified their logs for so long and many people and companies have been caught being dumb and running illegal so in comes the mandated EOBR law.
We have no one to blame but ourselves but once again people can't accept blame and say yeah we screwed ourselves. They piss and moan and cry and blame the government and everyone else. -
if the policemen are regulated. why is there so many corrupt cop stories popping up lately?
what does chemists regulation have to do with anything. they make the same good living regardless. and they're not told when to work and sleep. or how long. and all that BS. -
This hole debate for elogs would be acceptable if the Company's that run elogs now had a stellar record of safety compliance and less accidents. After all the debate and all the hrs putting this rule together the FMCSA could not justify this rule on any of these Merits.The only reason they came up with is less paperwork not safety not accidents not compliance so go figure.If all us people are out here running like a bunch of cowboys you would think it would show up and be real easy for the FMCSA to point out. Anyway my two cents

Wrong again. "In comes the law" comes from the lobby of big carriers. Not from an overwhelming number of "dumb and illegal". -
Whether it is because of lobbying of big carriers, the ATA, the TCA, or whomever is really not an issue. When you have increases in technology, it is just a matter of time before gooberment decides to take advantage of it. Just like they have taken advantage of traffic camera technology or "gotcha cams" as they are sometimes called. Or optical character recognition systems, facial recognition systems, and a laundry list of other technological goodies that they use. I have not seen it implemented yet, but the technology is already here to use a directed electromagnetic pulse to disable the ECM on a vehicle that is being pursued. The major players that want the e-log thing do so primarily as they perceive it benefits them either from an insurance standpoint or reducing regulatory compliance issues. With CSA, this is even more critical. But ELD's, e-logs, or whatever the term du jour is was bound to become a really once some dweeb in a gooberment cubical got wind of it. -
If I were a lower I could nail quite a few of you drivers quite easily. While fueling why didn't you inspect your truck? I think the three hour tire check is still on the books too I'll check for that.
Like I said you guys that claim to get all these miles are cheating.
What's a thorough truck inspection? Ask the California Highway Patrol.
One company has a 30 minute pre trip policy and I'm sure a 30 minute post trip policy too.
Ya see you supporters of the elog are falling into the trap that big business wants you to fall into so that in the event of an accident you become the fall guy
That 30 minute break well you it seems you are not inspecting your truck when you stop that truck from what you cheaters are telling me is that you are not doing that either other than thumping a tire and that's of you are even doing that!
Are you inspecting when you are getting loaded apparently not and all time that you are on the dock has to be included and I know for a fact that you are not logging that.
All I would need to do is download a copy of your logs and I could sue that company and you too!
If I were a cop I could write you guys a ticket very easily too.
Standing on a dock to get that bill of lading filled out is no three minute ordeal every time you pick up a load and or drop a load.
You guys are only fooling yourselves. -
I dont have any problem being somewhat regulated such as only driving only 11hrs in a 24 hr period but I have the problem with the lack of flexibility to choose when I sleep or take my breaks I prefer to stay out of major cities during rush hours or grab my naps when I get a bit sleepy. I hate driving between 5am and 7am always a bit sleepy then no matter how long I have been up but after my reset I have to drive those hrs to make delivery.
Cops want to talk about them I know many that work 12hr shifts then go do the construction babysitting jobs for extra cash afterwards go home and take only a few hrs off and do their normal patrols.
I know this because I used to work some of them sites and talked to them while waiting on different aspect of the job. ATL for example had a section that was going to be 36hr plus straight company hired a cop to sit with us though the night he came off a 12 stayed with us 10 and said he was going home for 2 and back to work for another 12 and this is a guy driving around and carrying a loaded gun working a not so pleast section of town. But hey they that's SAFE and regulated. Again I understand some regulations but some are just bs make them logical. Did you know an inoperable headlight hold more weight and points than a improperly mounted cab body? I think I would rather have headlight out than my cab fall off a frame just saying.
