I didn't start cars until I was 40. My body is sure thankful an older, wiser me knew not to do the stuff the young guys do that tear up their bodies!

    Like a snowman!

I never thought the things I did in my 20’s would effect me in my 50’s. I had a 20 something load next to me a couple months ago. When I saw him jump off his top deck to the ground I remembered why my knees and back hurt today. Manhandling 55 gallon drums at CF and then jumping out of the trailer. I can still hang with the young ones most of the time when loading if they are inspecting them.

It's not as bad as you'd think. You learn to keep a bit of momentum, and traction isn't that bad if you have a good throttle foot. The hardest part is often climbing up or down off the trailer.

Unless you have something with summer tires, then it gets fun!

You should see all the overflow lots around here for everything on cars, trucks and Vans. It is crazy as can be, I got kicked off the lot I parked my truck and trailer for them to put more cars and trucks on two years ago.,

    Banker and Hammer166 Thank this.

New to the business. Just got my CDL and trying to develop goals. I am interested in car hauling. Not scared of hard ### work! Sounds awesome actually. But first and foremost... how's the pay? :p

Some jobs can suck at first, but the money and the flexible schedule are why I do it. There are some really good paying carhaul jobs and some that suck bad. Even some locations with otherwise good companies suck. Biggest reason is that a new driver or some company drivers that are not compensated properly can’t make good money with short haul. The short haul drivers I know who make $2,000-$2,400 every week are paid a premium for the short haul, usually are paid $90-$100 extra to return to that terminal empty. Union companies pay company drivers roughly 15 minutes per unit to load and then will pay all time in excess of 15 minutes per car for legitimate delays. They pay about $7 drop pay with it going up slightly with each stop. I think their hourly pay is roughly $26 now and $1.41 loaded mileage pay which is paid to the last drop. Some non union companies like USAL for example pay a very good loading fee and 70 something cents for all miles. I believe their load pay was $10 a car at the home terminal and $22 a car to load a Backhaul. Some companies strictly pay a percentage which can be very lucrative or it can really suck. Depends on the drivers skill, load revenue and how hard the driver works. If a company/terminal can’t promise you $2,000+ a week every week on average once you are skilled, stay away from them.

Decided I wanted to get loaded with a few inches of snow instead of the 8-10" we're supposed to get here. A lot easier to let the wind clean it off the vehicles & decks come Thursday morning. Please forgive the filthy truck.
