I guess I'm what COULD be called a fair weather flatbedder....

I prefer freight that drives on and off.....like with a lowboy or a carhauler.

There's still hard work and the challenge of every load being different.......There's still chains and straps and load placement and securement just like with a flatbed..........working outside in all kinds of weather in a full set of clothing and steel toed boots.........driving off road and finding the location even in the dark......

    I could go on......but.........here's my point......all that.......and more.....

WITHOUT all the "Giftwrapping" that goes with a LOT of flatbed freight.

You're right REDD......Flatbedding aint for everybody.

Then again.....the oilfield aint for everybody either.

We do what we do because it's different than the mainstream trucking job.

Most of us wouldn't have it any other way.

2 flatbed stories from I-87 in New York.

At a rest area/ travel center between NYC and Albany I parked the rig and went inside the restaurant for a snack. Wnen I came back, much to my surprise, a bunch of tourist types were using my empty deck for a picnic table (complete with Coleman stove) and had their lounge chairs tucked under the edge for "shade". Quite upset because I wouldn't sit there and wait for them to finish.

Few weeks later, same stop, I discovered an older motor home parked beside me. Lo and behold Fido was tied to my back bumper and (you won't believe this) tethered to the supports under the pass side of the deck.... right ahead of my tandems..... was a toddler in a harness. I kinda flipped out on that one and #### near kicked in the door of the motor home. NY trooper was in the lot and ran over to see what the racket was. "Mom and Dad" wanted some "private time" and kid was "in the way". But kid was "perfectly safe officer 'cause fido was tied there to protect him".:biggrin_2555:

####.... if I hadn't noticed dog and just hopped in and took off.....!!!!!

You know Les, I get that arm thing once in awhile as well. I wonder if it could be the rotator cuff?
