It's funny because it mostly happens when someone bashes Schneider. A thread like this starts and when those Schneider drivers catch wind of it they all hold hands and march over to defend. I worked for Schneider for 3 months. It wasn't a bad company but the pay sucked donkey balls.
So you want to drive for Schneider?

Schneider is not a perfect solution but as far as entry level companies goes it isn't bad. My co-driver (son) will be contributing to the high turnover rate as soon as he does some more time. Most really good companies won't take a noobie because they don't have the experience. Every company we researched required at least one year and 100,000 miles experience before they would consider you. Most required two or more years. You have to start somewhere. This was not my first choice but the company I wanted to work for (TMC) didn't have any positions in our area.
I have my complaints also....
I absolutely hate the fact that I get paid for one mileage but drive another and for some reason it only benefits the carrier. The load we are on now pays for 2046 miles but is 2180 miles. That's 2 1/2 hours of my time for free but this seems to be the industry standard. It's an antiquated system but as long as people put up with HHMG miles than that's what you deal with.
I hate sitting on hold when I have an issue. Most times it's only 5 minutes but sometimes it's 20 minutes or more that I sit waiting listening to 80's music that rots the brain.
I hate that no one acknowledges when you send them a message. Just have the courtesy to say "Got your message" instead of me sitting there wondering.
I hate that the QUALCOMM goes out at the most inopportune times. I hate that the routes given almost always take me down back roads. I have learned to research before taking the messed up routes.
I hate that a lot of shippers treat drivers like 3rd class citizens. "No bathroom for drivers" signs drives me #######.
I hate that truck stops smell like urine and diesel and it gets on your shoes and is transferred into the area you sleep in.
I hate that your truck seems to be worse after maintenance than when it went in and nothing you told them about was fixed.
I hate that it takes weeks to get reimbursed for tolls/weight tickets and any other expenses.
I hate that drivers treat other drivers poorly. We all do the same job just work for different companies.
I am sure there is more but thats all I can think of during this 30 minute break. The whole point of posting what I did is to explain that you can do okay here and for a starter company it has exceeded my expectations. One year and gone? Maybe...Two years and gone? Probably. I'll do my part to contribute to the high turnover rate. Too many other companies out there that pay more and treat their drivers better.Last edited by a moderator: Dec 14, 2014

The OP's post read like a 'news report' on either MSNBC or FOX News - a shred of truth twisted and construed to the point of being virtually unrecognizable. Not wanting to go point by point I'll just point to the OP's discussion of Per Diem. Does SNI deduct two cents per mile? Yes. Do you potentially pay less in taxes resulting in a larger net income? Depends on your personal finances. Moosc and I have had several discussions on this point.
Presentation matters when putting forth an argument. The way I read the OP it felt like he was denigrating myself and every other driver who has chosen to drive for Schneider in the recent past. When we've had posters who have been around, asked questions and participated a little bit make similar posts/threads on their way out the door they generally get a "goodbye and good luck" type response. Hostility gets met with hostility. -
It's Trucking there is bad stuff that happen at every company. It's give and take and you have to look at how the company reacts to what happened. Your truck will break down and you will have to sit at a shipper....

I'm confused by big orange defenders 1 it is not that bad a place to start and I'm leaving as soon as I get 1-2 years in= company sucks 2 I used to work there it was not as bad as poster said but nobody says they want back = company sucks of course this the same defense that is used by all bottom feeder company schills how about owning your mistake it is not that uncommon and please remember if the back of your trailer says drivers wanted you probably work for a jerkoff

You're right Dale and as your information says you have been trucking for 35 years. You have options but most of us starting out don't have those same options. We pick the best companies that will hire us at the time. My co-driver has two young children and doesn't want to be out 3 weeks at a time. Makes sense but in order to get a job that will bring him home every night he has to have a year experience which is why people say they will only stay a year or two.
I, on the other hand, am retired from 23 years in the military. I have a pension and disability but want to make enough to pay off my house before I think about retiring. I am looking at driving part-time just to stay busy. Schneider has programs that will allow me to do so if I wish.
Not sure what your wanting people to say Dale. "I hate Schneider because they pay me decent and followed through with everything they said they would do?" "I am glad I went with Schneider instead of one of those what do you call them....bottom feeder companies". Seems your the one with the problem with Schneider.

I read this and gave up about half way through...bad writing and too much whining...
First tenet (first of the four noble truths) of Buddhism=In this world people suffer.
Drivers may suffer more than some but less than others...babys whine, drivers drive and articulate complex concerns using a well developed insightful prose; obviously the op is not a driver.Last edited: Dec 16, 2014
