hello everyone, I have read through this thread, I wanted to ask for some advice. I am currently living in southern california and am employed as a nurse. Housing prices are high ($1400 2bd 2ba) and thats in the ghetto, where I live (san bernardino). I was looking at getting into trucking before I went to nursing school. Im more of a blue collar type guy and dont really fit in at work. anyways to make a long story short I am thinking about getting into trucking again. What kicked this all off is my uncle owns a house on the border of north/south dakota, he said I can live there rent free, i just need to maintain the house, he also explained to me about the frac jobs in north dakota. I looked into it a bit and when I hear about all the money that can be made I would be at the very least doubling my income if I could get a job transporting crude oil or water. then add on top of that a free place to live and I could seriously make and save a lot of money. the place I would be living in is about a 3 hour drive from williston ND. I have no trucking experience. I am thinking of going to school to get my cdl and hazmat and tanker endorsements. im 30 yrs old, have a wife and 3 dogs. oh i forgot to mention, that i could also maintain his property in texas as well. I heard you can make good money hauling oil in texas as well but the pay is more in ND...any advice on what state to choose?
-advice on if i should take this opportunity or if it would work out for me?
- will I be able to get a job with no exp other then school?
- ND vs TX? -
Funny i'm a trucker trying to become a nurse
You're going to need some experience under your belt, but if you're willing to get it, you can make it happen..... Tx might be better place to start for being fresh out of school, needing some otr experience..
-
well i can tell you that in nursing.......they wont even look at you without 1 yr of exp minimum......lots of ppl out there with license, in deb, and no work. took me a year to get a job as a nurse.
cuzzin it Thanks this. -
Yea i know, Nursing shortage but not really cuz they don't want to train new.
Trucking shortage cuz nobody wants to treat drivers right. Otr companies would rather spend 2500 bucks to recruit replacements than spend a thousand to keep ones they have....HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thanks this. -

hey guys i got my training and cdl at cr England. They suck sick treating me like dirt so I left after 2 months with them. I have 2 solid yrs in trucking line haul. clean dmv record, i used to do 14-16 hrs day job before, reefer and hand jack touch freights (30 pallets of frozen food a day) and toughest job next to foodservice work. Only got paid 200 a day. i have no kids, single, you guys know if I have a good chance landing a job that pays $8k a month hauling oil or water, i have no oil field experience but driven in snow and icey roads before. I got all my endorsements too. i was thinking goin with pf....what yous think. thanks!

go for it. obviously you need hazmat, I'm assuming thats one of your endorsements. plenty enough driving experience to handle the job.
