It's tough out there right now for hotshots.
I run one and the good paying loads are hard to get. If you plan on running off the load boards it's gonna be a hard road.

So what are the other ways of finding loads? Break out the phone book?

You stated 10 hours of driving each, but the actual rule is 11 allowed driving hours, 22 total, and with breaks, meals etc, that won't be a problem in a 24 hour day.

The other bit of wisdom I would like to impart is, get some experience before laying out $50-$60k. Do a little research, find a decent company that will train you, and put you in a truck for a year or so.
    AVOID ANY LEASE/PURCHASE!!!!!!
That way you will learn proper load securement, and get some "trucking life" experience. You, or your partner, may decide that life in a truck, ain't for you. If either of you are married, your spouse may decide that.

Great advice. I started my hotshot business a few years before I got married. Now, that I'm married with a baby at home its very hard to be gone more than one night.

If i'm not mistaken if you don't have a sleeper both drivers clock will start at the same time. You will only have 14 hrs to do what you want to do for both.
Passenger seat or back seat will be considered on duty not driving.

Cool thanks for the knowledge guys! May just go get my A class, find a company and start driving Class 8 and learn the ropes a bit better than I do now.
