Thanks for an advice, i seek some more detail and yes, there are some demand around to haul hazmat totes with decent price, but still I dont think i can handle the insure for hazmat with LTL.

Bump. Here I am 5 months late and I am still interested. I'm still doing research on this before I decide to jump in. This is a great thread.

Merry Christmas to all of you guys!

To heck with that. If I run during the holiday weeks I just take the golf clubs with me and get in some whaps while I'm waiting for everyone to get back to work. A little TO on the the road can be fun if you do it right. :)

BTW, thanks to all of you for the fine information here. I am looking at buying a rig and setting myself up as a hot-shot O/O. There is some great information all through the thread.

I'm looking at starting up sometime this summer. And since I can set my own schedule with the current company, I think I might be able to work it so that I go out and run for three months as a HS, then go back to my old job for a month or so, then back out to HS some more. Believe it or not I can do this under our company work rules.

I figure this way I can learn the ropes, and if for some reason things don't work out or I don't like it, I can sell out at minimal loss and go back to my company driver position. I don't expect that to happen, but as someone who owned a totally different type of business in the past, one thing I know is that you just never know for sure what will happen next.

Oh yeah, I'm a company driver, four years exp. X,T, TWIC. Started out with tanker in the oilfield hauling fuel and crude, then moved on to specialized up to 96'. I've done very little flat-bedding, but I think I can figure it out. Been on and off this forum for like six years now.

I have a few questions I haven't seen yet, mostly on rigs and stuff, so I'll post when I can.

Garkeller- my wife and I are about a year away from doing the same thing. I have been ingesting all the great info on this site (and others) and am looking forward to hearing how things are going for you. Are you going to stick to east coast? What do you haul? What is your setup? Thanks
