These companies are laughing (hysterically) all the way to the bank. This is why so many companies push these lease deals.

I know, I did not lease from Great, but another company, up front it was all good, even on paper, then after signing and you're running for a month or so comes the extras. The sad part is I now see they are doing this as a predatory practice, and look mostly to the new drivers, which ends up leaving them with a sour outlook on the industry. Why is it that these truck companies can get away with this, but if other industries do such things the law steps in? Did you know that drivers are the only professional class in this country that have no wage protection...why?

It frustrating to see good honest hard working men and women get taken to the cleaners by these companies. There are always the "GOTCHA!" charges hidden in the contract somewhere.

I remember talking with a lease driver a few years ago at South Beloit, Illinois who cleared a little over $15,000 for the year after all the hidden charges were deducted from his settlement. He told me the contract was filled with laguage that only a lawyer could understand and yet he signed on the dotted line anyhow. He told me (in hindsight) he regretted signing the lease, but because of the language and terms of the lease he couldn't get out of it without ruining his credit. He also said that many weeks his settlement was negative.... in other words, HE PAID THEM to haul their freight!

And I agree with you... I also think these deals are predatory. I hope you and the OP become the exception to the rule and find success. Best of luck to you guys.

Many people get starry eyed thinkin bout being an O/O. They dont care what the contract says or how many people warn them. If you cant finance a truck on your own, just save the money up till you can buy a truck outright. L/P is indentured servitude.

So someone would continue to be ripped off, in order not to ruin their credit? Then they deserve what they get, IMHO!

I understand what your saying. I would much rather ruin my credit than go completely bankrupt working out the remainder of a lease deal. Lessor of the two evils. But then again, I would never sign any lease agreement either.
