I've got the plan written out need to revise a bit. I don't want to be one to haul cheap freight, so I'm shooting for upwards of 2.00+ but I know I can make it at 1.75 if no big issues arrise right off the bat.
Also hauling for the big brokers like ch robinson, and tql is that wise?
I ultimately want to find my own shipper but just to get me rolling. -
You won't need to worry about getting paid with most of the larger brokers. If you want to use quick pay, CH Robinson only charges about 1 1/2%. I think TQL hits you pretty hard on their fees. If you plan to pull a box around there are many brokers who could keep you rolling. Schneider, JB Hunt, Covenant, Allan Lund, and the list goes on and on. -
Thats what I was thinking also. I would love to become an o/o only after I have to money saved. I would think that no matter where you would go there would be van freight available from a broker whether it is from LS or JB or any of the thousands out there.

Can anyone tell me how the market is for Step Deck haulers. Im comen home soon, and wana go back on the road. But all I have ever hauled was step deck. I was also looken at getting a step box furniture trailer and considering going that route. Any suggestions.

I just talked to an O/O last night who runs his own authority and has both a step and an RGN that he pulls and he said that both are doing great. Keep in mind he does mostly OD loads on both trailers.

I just moved from Van to flatbed because of the stronger market/rates. It can get slow at times but on what I have been seeing I can double my profit per mile and get more miles at higher rate than my van. In my first month I will have beat my best gross month with a van and took almost 2 weeks off. But this can be tied back to being able to get longer runs at better rates.

I can say that in the past few months rates for a flat are up. I do flat right now but if I ever bought my own truck, getting a nice flat or step like I would want cost some serious coin.

That's what I'm doing, gears. How are you doing with that gig?

Home quite often, run when I want, vast majority drop and hook. Gotta love it. Just wished it payed better, but the above listed items make it worth it to me.
