More targeted cold calling. Look for companies that coordinate own shipping and start developing relationship. Also leverage other relationships.

Have a couple sources that people place bid requests. Sift through the brokers and contact the ones that are direct. Most of the calls these people get are from brokers so when you are calling as a carrier they are willing to talk.

We have also been getting referrals. Great customer service goes a long ways.

    VisionLogistics and JERRYY Thank this.

Some people say when you call for a load through load boards say to get straight to the point and skip over asking "how are you" and that good stuff, I like where your coming from I think its better to be nice and you'll build relationships that way righyt

What do you mean how do O/O's make money as a company driver? Your either one or the other. Now do you mean a lease operator or an o/o leased to a carrier?

There is no reason you should not earn a decent living as a company driver. Whether you make money as an owner operator will depend on your ability to manage your business. You will need to get rates that will enable you to operate at a profit. It would be much better if you started as a company driver and get a couple of years experience before buying a truck. Learn something about this business before risking your money.

Easiest way to put it is you need to learn the ropes around the business and see what it takes to operate and the costs of operation before buying a truck and blindly going into this industry.
